Travelling after Applying H1B , i am in OPT

Hi,
I am in OPT and OPT is valid till Feb 2014. My employer will be applying for H1B this year . Is it safe to travel in the month of May. What are my options, Can i ask my employer to postpone my application til i return back or deffer it to next year. Is there any other option while applying for H1B. It would be great if u can help me out.

If you travel and return in F1 status while the H1 petition is pending, your status becomes a matter of confusion. You may need to change status again after returning.
