H1-B to H-4 (and eventually/parallel H-4 EAD) conversion with travel to India

Hi,

Is it advisable to convert from an H1-B visa to an H4 visa after going to India (I have never held an H4 visa before but went from an F1 to an H1-B). If so, do we separately apply for an H4 visa - what is the nature of the process? If the duration of stay in India is about 2-3 months, is it advisable to apply for an H4 with EAD? - would this increase the processing time?

You cannot apply for H4 EAD from India or any other country. You need to be in U.S on H4 status to apply for H4 EAD.
You can apply for H4 visa along with your spouse when he goes for his H1B visa stamping or if you prefer you can apply alone. that is up to you.
