Have H1 and H4 both at the same time

I have my H1B petition being filed by a consultancy based out of USA. The petition has been now approved as of August 2016. My Spouse is already in USA on his H1B and is a permanent employee of a recognized organization. Currently since there is no a likeable requirement that the colsulting firm can put me up for, so I am unable to use my H1B. But since I plan to move to US asap, can I move using my H4 (stamping the H4 visa) with the current scenario that I also have a H1B approved petition and then once my consulting firm gets a proper job role for me , I transfer from H4 to my existing approved H1B and do the necessary amendment for that. is that possible?
