IS I797 Approval required for taking

Hi,

I wish to know if my i797 approval number will be required for taking online appointment for my dependent H4 visa or it it just required at interview time?

You will need to have filled out your DS160 and paid fee to take appointment. In DS160, The I797 number is required. So I don't think there is a way to get appointment without the approval number.
