  • DS160 form questions for h1b/h4

    Hi,

I am filling DS160 for myself (h1b) and my wife (H4). I have the following quetions. Can anyone please clarify them?

    1) My wife was on H1 till mid of 2007 and then converted to H4 and had stamping for that. Now applying for H4 renwal stamping. Previous employment/eduction details section in DS160 form - Do I need to enter her previous employment details or can I skip this becuase she is applying for H4?

    2) Family members/releative in US:
Do I need to enter my wife name and kids details in my application?
Do my wife needs to enter my name and kids info in her application?

    3) My wife is staying in India for the last 2 months. She is on vacation. We both are going for stamping in April. Do I need to enter her India address or our US address as Home address in the application?
(fyi: I am going to fill US address as home address in my application).

    4) Contact Person in the US: Do I need to write my company HR name or manager name?

    5) H4 petition/receipt number: where do we need to enter this info in DS-160? While filling DS160, I couldn't find it.

Thank you for your time and help in this regard.

Dont trust immihelp for filling up your DS -160. On their page (https://www.immihelp.com/us-visa-ds-...e-information/) they tell you to fill your India address as home address, even if you have come to India for visa stamping. I found conflicting information on "usembassy.gov" website -http://london.usembassy.gov/ds160_faqs.html

It is asking for my home address, but I live in the United States. Do I enter this?
Your home address is where you normally reside, so if that is the United States, you must enter your address there. However, you will be required to provide a mailing address in the United Kingdom as this will be the address to which your passport will be sent.

Well yeah it is indeed conflicting. But to me what immihelp wrote make sense of two reasons. 1) The India (or home country address) is where you will stay around the time of the visa interview and could be contacted by Consulate should that be needed. It makes no sense therefore to put the US address there.

              2) The US address is asked in a later section, US contact information, spouse contact information [for H4] etc.

The only confusing part is why is it mentioned otherwise in the embassy FAQs. My take is they are relevant for scenarios where the applicant has gone for stamping in a non-home country where you are staying in a hotel most likely. So that's the time they rather want you to put in the US home address not a hotel or temporary stay address.
