Driving License renewal after H1B is expired

I am working with H1B Visa which got expired in September 2019. My employer has applied for an extension and decision is still pending with USCIS. My Driving license in Connecticut expires next month. I checked in multiple DMV locations and all officials are saying that I need a valid I-94 to extend my license. They refused to check SAVE stating they can't verify in SAVE without unexpired I-94 date.


My query is -

1. Has anyone faced similar situation in Connecticut and able to renew?

2. Other states like TX DMV were able to verify in SAVE after H1B is expired. What date they use to verify immigration status in SAVE system?

If all else fails you can get a Driver Only License in Connecticut which does not require legal presence documents
