  • URGENT: Need help!!

    Hi,
My friend has a VISA interview at US consulate in India on Dec 14. He had his Changes of Status to H1B in February 2010.
He had his flight reservation with Delta airlines which has 2 hours layover in Paris.
When he went for check in at the counter today, he was denied boarding and was informed that he would need a transit visa in Paris.

When they scanned his Visa page on passport ( which has only F1 Visa), it was not recognized. This was probably, since he informed his school about his Change of Status and hence his F1 visa was updated in the USCIS database to be invalid now.

He went ahead and cancelled his flight.
He is not getting any direct flight from US to India and even if they are available, the price is just exorbitant.

The question is: Is transit visa required if there is layover in a third country in this situation? This looks so weird as why one would require a transit visa for 2 hours layover.

    Whats the solution to this?

Any response would be highly appreciated which would greatly help my friend since he has his VISA interview on Dec 14.

    >>> If the layover is in any of the European countries (Except Belgium), then a transit visa is required provided the current U.S visa in the passport has already expired. Search and read about the posts related to transit visa in european countries. Here are few similar posts.

    Whats the solution to this?
    >>>
    1) Book a direct flight from U.S to India.
    2) Book a flight that will transit visa airports other than European countries (Belgium is exception) like Dubai.
    3) Take a transit visa for the country through which you transit.
Not a legal advice. Use of this information is strictly at your own risk.
