  • Transit via the U.S.A. to Canada from Russia

    Hello,
Would you, please, clarify the situation we faced during our trip.
Our family lives in Calgary, we have Permanent Resident Cards and we are still Russian citizens.
We visited our Russian relatives last week.
On our way back from Russia we had the flights from Moscow to New York (Russian Aeroflot) and New York-Calgary (Air Canada) via New York (JFK).
The time between flights in JFK was 3 hours and we were going to stay in the transit zone in JFK.
We were kicked off from the flight Moscow-New York with motivation we do not have transit visa to flight via the U.S.A.
The Russian Airline did not reroute us via Toronto and we had to purchase the tickets to Toronto, spent additional 4,000 USD for three tickets.
Now Aeroflot refuses to refund the unused tickets Moscow-New York, says nothing they can do.
Please, give us some true information were Russian Authorities right, not allowing us to fly to JFK.
Also, where we can find the information about US visa requirements.
    Thank you,
