  • I 94

    Hi I wanted to know what are the formalities that needs to be completed when one arrives to USA on a visitors visa.I understand that one has to fill out the I-94 form Do we need to show the return air tickets then and also if one has a 10yr multiple entry visa and is planning to stay for 2 months but would like to extend it for 3 months after one reaches here....what should u do?
    Should we fill the date of exit from the country in I 94 and if so should one really be accurate on the date????
    Plz reply to me at the earliest...........Thanks

    Ok, here goes;
    You will be given an I-94 and a custom declaration form to fill out by the
    staff in the plane when you are about to land. You do not fill out
    the date of exit from US on the I-94. You present your passport with the visa and the I-94 to the inspector at the entry. He asks you the purpose of
    the visit and "how long do you want to stay". Depending on your answer,
    he stamps the expiry date on the I-94 and the visa classification..B1 or B2. This date tells you the period you are allowed to stay in the US.
    You do not tell the inspector about extending your visit, tell him the
    period you wish to want to stay that matches your purpose.
    Extensions should be applied for only after you have lived in the US for
    some period of your allowed time. They do not routinely ask for the air ticket
    but they may and you should carry it with your passport. Also carry the
    invitation letter from your host in US as that may be asked for too.

          Depends on the purpose of your visit and how much you want to stay.

              Usually they give visitors 6 months anyway even if you say 2-3 months.
