  • Curious about my chances

    Hello everyone,

I would really appreciate if someone would rate my chances of getting a tourist visa. I am a 22 year old Indian student currently studying for a Master's degree in Western Europe. I plan on visiting the states with my parents who already have US visas. My dad/parents, who live in India, would be the ones sponsoring the trip. We've been to multiple places in Europe earlier on multiple tourist trips and also some places in SEA.

I actually studied in the US for my Bachelor's degree for 4 years. I did internships every summer after the first one, and did one even after graduating (on OPT). I left the US as soon as my internship finished, as I had no interest of staying there.

My dad is a businessman who does well, and has been to the US multiple times for business trips. After my graduation, I toured around the US and Canada with my parents. The plan is to now visit the places that we haven't been to, for about 2 - 3 weeks, in my holidays.

I plan on applying the visa from the country I am currently studying in. Is it a good idea?

Were you ever denied a US visa after your US graduation?

      Should not be a problem

      hi

based on the information you have provided, there should be no problem in acquiring the visa. and here is why:

      1. you have been to the US, worked in USA but did not opt for h1 to stay back instead exited USA in time.. i assume
      2. you could have opted for Masters in the USA instead you are doing it from UK.
      3. both bachelors in US and Masters in UK are costly affairs.. and since you have successfully managed to pay for them..its quite a proof for Stable Financial Condition of your family.

The above factors clearly indicate that you are NOT a potential migrant. and therefore your case should be taken very positively unless you help create some suspicion during interview

No, I never applied for a US visa after I left -- infact my original visa expired very recently.

Thank you very much for the response and the detailed reasons. I want to clarify some facts: I never applied for H1B or any work visa and left the US well before my work permit (OPT) and visa expired. I am not necessarily doing my Master's degree from the UK; nevertheless it is quite expensive. Other facts that you assume are quite accurate, and I hope the visa officer comes to the same conclusion as you

yes,you should apply where you have current residence and student ties.
You will need copies of visas of relatives who are travelling with you, proof of your school enrolment and leave, itinerary and proof of funding for the trip.
( credits to your bank statement sent by your parents) , proof of parents' income at home.

I think they are good. All said, B1/B2 decisions depend on officer discretion so pray everything goes well.

Just want to give an update on my status: my visa interview was successful and was issued a tourist visa for 10 years. Thank you very much sangeetaL and peace999 for your guidance.
