  • B2 Visa: Documents info

Thanks for this great forum! I have few questions concerning documentation for B2 Visa.

    1) I-134 requires me to provide balance for last one year, but my bank (BofA) says it cannot give for last 3 months only. What should I do?

    2) Do I need separate bank letter (above) for my mother and father? Their interview is together.

    3) I can send my monthly statement copies for as long as one year. Do I need to send original? One copy, or two (second would be photocopy if first is original) for both my parents?

    4) I don't have official birth certificate. I have passport and my 10th class certificate. What should I do?

    5) When I booked appointment online I got same day and time for my parents. But there was no mention of the language of appointment, nor any option to choose it. When do they decide if they want to carry out Visa interview in Hindi? How do I make that sure? Appointment is in Delhi.

    6) Do my parents need to show marriage certificate? They don't have any official one. What are alternatives? Do they have to carry wedding album during interview, or during US trip?

    Thanks a lot.

You don't have to choose Hindi or Punjabi language for New Delhi embassy at the time of taking an appointment.

You can ask for an interpretor at the time of interview.

This is not same as other consulates like Chennai where you need to first ask for Telugu, Tamil etc at the time of appointment.

Thanks for quick reply. To clarify my first question (I had typo there):

        1) I-134 requires me to provide balance for last one year, but my bank (BofA) says it can give for last 3 months only. What should I do?
I-134 instruction page says that letter from my bank should indicate total and average deposit for last one year. When I contacted my bank (Bank of America) they said that their (stupid) legal policy only has letter template which has information on average and total deposit for last 3 months, and that they cannot change the template. So any letter I get will have information for past three months only. I have monthly statements as proof but letter will have its limitation as it will not cover 12 month period as stated in I-134. Is that a stringent requirement, which cannot be overridden by bank statements?

            Bank of America sucks

This does it - after I'm through with sponsoring my parent's visa, I'm getting my money out of Bank of America.

Apparently BOA has different "reference letter" templates -
The one needed for sponsor ship is called "Immig/Sponsor" letter (provides 12 month deposits). The bank manager said it is their policy to order "reference letters" from corporate office. BOA charged me $50 for the "reference letter" - which is a total rip off. I'm moving my funds from BOA to some bank who treats their loyal customers well. I will call them and let them know the reason.

Of course! After so much fund I have there lying in they still charge me fee for letter. What kind of customer service is this? BoA sucks.

I have always used Wachovia (previously First Union) and they gave me whatever letter I needed in the format I wanted.

No charges for any of them. No charges for notary either.

Hi !! We had the same issue for we also use BOA. But we did not pay anything we directly went to the branch office and contacted the VP their and told her we do not have any fancy of having such letter from you but this is what the homeland security needs after long debating she said well if you can get hold of your statments for 1 yr calculate the deposit get me the statements and the calculation will give you the letter, it wasn't difficult to get 1 year statements as we have the online banking facility just summed up the amounts on a paper and carried it along with copy of statments she personally typed a letter stating whatever we wanted on BOA letter head and gave us. we were also in the verge of closing the account there for the kind of experience we had in getting this simple letter.

                    All the best
                    Priya

                        Just to let you know...

I got my BoA letter within 2-3 days, so at least I didn't have to wait for 10 or more days like some people here. They charged me $10 though, and only provided details for 3 months with caveat that if information about last one year is needed then statements have to be accepted.

8 days and still waiting. I've been to the branch again today - same reply - cannot help, cannot get them to fax it to us - will check why I was charged $50 for the letter. So much for customer service. I cannot delay mailing the docs anymore - so going with the statements.

                            Finally some Closure -
Called BofA customer service (finally got through to a person) - explained the situation to the first CS Rep that I've been waiting for a letter for 8 days and I need it today - she was helpful - connected me to their 'Solutions unit' - Spoke to a lady who understood exactly what I needed and said the letter was mailed on 15th November (oh really ) - Anyway she said she can fax it to any local branch and in 2 hours I got a call from my branch that my fax has arrived!! Finally!
Lesson learnt - after you 'order' your letter keep checking with Bank of America and if possible move your money to a more reasonable bank that doesn't ask customers to jump through hoops to get a letter - and oh yeah - the $50 charge is unreasonable by any measure.

I went to Chase local branch where I opened my account. The lady was very helpful. I sat with her for 1 hour calculating all the balances, deposits and other stuff, finally printed the letter and also gave me a few copies for my referrence.
