Transit Visa

Hello!

My mom is here on visitor's visa. Her visa expires Nov 5th and I-94 expires Dec 4th. I just confirmed her return date in AirIndia for Nov 29th from JFk in New York(via London).

I have been told that since her visa expires by then, she should take a transit visa for London.

Has anyone done this? Can anybody give me more info on this - what docs are needed and whether going in person is better (if so where is the Brtish embassy in NY) etc.

Can we apply for transit visa in person at the British embassy? If yes, does anybody know where to go and how long it takes to apply and get the visa
