  • Processing times at Mumbai Consulate

I tried looking for this information on this site... could not find any experiences; so here goes -

Does anyone know how long it takes for the Visa application to be approved from the time my parents (both 60+) apply through the drop box (Blue Dart) facility?
The US Embassy website says it's 4-5 days (www.visa-services.com/usa...kup.html#9 ), but my parents have not been asked for additional information and neither have they heard about the status of the application. It has been about 2 weeks now.

Some colleagues at work say it takes longer - 2-3 months!!!!

    Any experiences/information?

    Thx.

Re: how long does it take for drop box in mumbai consulate??

It definitely does NOT take 2-3 months. It takes less than 5 days.

Entire procedure is described at https://www.immihelp.com/usa-visas/visitor

Well, they got theirs approved yesterday.
So, it's about 2-3 weeks using the drop box facility from Goa! However the location should not be a problem coz the package was delivered in Bombay the very next day. The consulate has a website to track the passport number but I don't think it works.

They did get a call 3 weeks into the process that the fees that the Blue Dart folks had told them was according to the old fee structure and they had to cough a new demand draft with about Rs. 500 more per application. They returned the draft they sent earlier.
My parents sent the new drafts late last week, and a few days later had their visa. Worth the wait I guess - they got a 10/M visitor visa.
Thanks to all you folks for helping with your emails.
Now to shop for insurance and tix!

Re: what all documents were sent through blue dart???

When you complete online appointment, you will see a webpage that will list all the documents that they immediately need. Both mother/father's document can go in one envelope.

                    Processing times at Mumbai Consulate

I think 'fer' is right on the two applications part.
My parents put in two applications (depending on your interpretation of the word). The Blue Dart folks gave my parents two Waybill numbers, one for each application they submitted.
My parents gave me the number (since they do not have Internet access), and I checked the status online. From Goa is was overnight delivery to Bombay.

As for the docs needed to be submitted, the list mentioned on immihelp is pretty exhaustive...

Re: what about the birth certificate

They put everything in 1 envelope when my parents applied and gave only one airway bill number.

                          hi murali

This is what i found in immihelp.comhttps://www.immihelp.com/usa-visas/visitor/mumbai.html
and am kind of confused now...

Attention: Security reasons require that only one application pack be placed in one envelope. Do not place more than one application pack in one envelope. In addition, you must close and seal the envelope only in the presence of the Blue Dart pick-up staff.

                            Who is Murali?

You don't need to worry. When you give it to Blue Dart staff, just follow what they say.
