Mom's name misspelled in my Indian Passport

Hi,
I came to USA last year post my marriage. My mother's name was misspelled in my passport (Printed Bhakti Joshi instead of Bhagwati Joshi). I realized it now at the time of applying for her visitor visa. Can you please guide me how can I correct it while being in US & what documents will be required for it.

You can get it corrected at the Indian consulate. You can submit your birth certificate showing the correct name of your mother.

But my problem is i don't have my birth certificate....& in India mostly school certificates only have father's name. What should i do in such case? Will a notarized affidavit from my parents help?
