If your I94 was only approved through March 20th, 2016 you will need to leave the U.S. by that date, as that is the amount of time you were granted at the port of entry. You can not stay 6 months without it being granted. You can apply for an extension.

You would want to apply 45 days before your expiration date but in your case it may not be possible. This link should can answer a lot of questions.

Visitor Visa Extension - Extend a Tourist Visa in the USA by applying for an extension of stay using these steps.

You should plan on exiting the US by 20 March at the latest. Extension isn't a good idea in this case.

The fact that you were granted just 6 weeks suggests you've stayed for long durations on prior visits. B-visas are for short visits, not to live nor work in the US.

                      Antonise Need your valuable suggestion

My sincere apology to jump into this thread, But I am in need of important advise. Thank you for understanding.

                      Here is where I stand,
                      1. I entered US on B1/B2 for a short visit.
                      2. Due to health reason of My spouse(primary H1B), we applied for COS from B1/B2 to H4 and that has been approved.
                      3. Now planning to join college under F1 and that would be COS from H4 to F1.

What I would like to understand is
                      a. I havent had my H4 stamping done from anywhere yet.
                      b. Since My F1 conversion will be done in USA and to have that stamping done is it advisable to travel to Canada? Yes/No?
                      c. Incase of rejection can I eneter using H4 and can that stamping be done based on the current approval or should I do the filing again?
                      d. If I need to file again? How long does it take for the approval?
                      e. And if I do enter US on H4, can I apply for F1 again?
                      f. Or is it advisable to stick and get H1B approved and then get it stamped from a nearby country??

I tried many forums and I dont see any case relevant to mine. Your advise is much appreciated and would help me proceed in the right direction.

                      Thank you
