I recently applied for H4 visa for my wife, thru dropbox at Chennai. I received a huge RFE with almost 15 items(w2forms & notarized tax returns for the entire years I worked in US, photographs of both client premises and my sponsor company, and apartment, our phone statements, and a lot more confidential info. about my company.
I struggled for a month to collect all the documents and my wife got the visa issued at last.
it took 3 months altogether.

successful H1 stamping in Ottawa
Hello Folks;
I successfully got my H1 (& H4 stamp) in Ottawa on March 8.
This was my third H1 stamp (second for the same employer)
It went very smooth...hardly 5 min interview...
Please note that bar coded DS156 is a must...i had filed my online but for my wife I had to fill in the consulate...for they did not accepted hand-filled form...there were 4 people ahead of me waiting for the computer...so it took 1 hour before I was able to pay the fees...after paying the fess in about 10 min I was called to submit the documents...the lady was very couteous and documents asked were:
H1/H4 approvals
passports
DS156 & DS157 forms
finger printing (both for myself & my wife)
status in Canada ( I had landed 2 days before)
submitted all my papers...after that in about 8 min I was called for the interview....the officer was very cool and had god sense of humour.....following questions....

1. where do you work?
2. what does the company do?
3. how long you have been working?
4. employer letter
5. pay stub

got the passport back at 3 pm. there were about 3 other Indians who also got their visa issued.
There were about 5 other people (I am not sure for what visa) but were from Pakistan and were submitted for security clearance and asked to come back in 3 weeks...

Thank you very much to all who helped me out...this is very useful forum...I will be more than haapy to answer any questions....

Delay in H1B approval
My company applied for H1B transfer and even after 5 and half months there was no response from INS. I was after my attorney requesting him to call INS and find out about my case. Normally after 120 days of applying for H1, INS Customer Care Representative can be called to enquire about the case. It is the prime responsibility of the attorney to call INS after 120 days if there is no response from INS. Fortunately my attorney called INS upon my repeated requests after 5 ½ months and after 3 days my H1 was approved! Don’t just depend on your desi attorneys...know your rights and ask them.

Social Security Number
Hi,

This is regarding the Social Security Number I applied on Aug 25, 2003. I came to on H4 visa and later changed the status to H-1 Visa.

Now its almost 2-months and I didnt get the SSA number. The local social security (in New Jersey) says that it is pending with INS and they have not updated their data. Once the INS updates their data in computer then only they (SSA) can issue the SS number.

Some of my friends say that the INS may take 6 months to update their files.

Now, anyone advise me in this matter to whom and where should I contact in INS so that they can expedite their update and resolve this matter.

renewal
Well, my story is quite long. However, following are my suggestions to anyone who is working the H1-B renewal (the 2nd three years)

1. Always remember to send proves that this job require a bachelor's degree with your application.

2. Check with your attorney or BCIS after a few months of the submission if you still haven't heard back from the BCIS.

3. DO NOT TRUST YOUR ATTORNEY AT ALL TIME. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.

Otherwise, you probably have to pay extra money to file the form (By premium processing) and the time you spend on talking to other attorney about your case.

Good luck.

H4 visa 214(b)
Hi All, I want to share my experince in this superb site, even though it is sour at present. My Wife attended Chennai consulate last month, with all the documents needed including w-2's for 3 years. They have issued a 214(g) since my latest w-2 was having very less on it. ( Thats below 10k, as I was in India for most of the time that year - 8 months and worked only for 2 months, and 2-months inbetween projects ). The consular officer did not check any other documents, like the work photographs, client details letters etc ( She was asked these documents will be helpful earlier, after a 221(g) was issued ). I am confused as what they really mean by issuing 214(b) to a h4 applicant. The w-2's I had for earlier 2 years had good enough amounts. In the process of checking what to do. please let me know of any such experiences. Thanks [email protected]
