Change course from Atlantic to Pacific !!
Just introducing a new law creates so many hassles, confusions and additional expenses in our travel plans.
So long I preferred going by Lufthansa for its speed. But not anymore for the additional hassles it had brought.
I would prefer not to go through Atlantic countries anymore unless Pacific countries enforce Transit Visas.
I think, in future, all countries that are part of EU will enforce the requirement of Transit Visas making it as a source for a revenue.
So, why not avoid Atlantic and prefer Pacific?!

Transir Visa requirement at Frankfrut
Hi, here is the latest i got from Lufthansa, alas my dad has already left for delhi,

Dear Mr. Manish,

Please note that from 1st Jan 2005, German Immigrations had imposed a
requirement of transit visa for Indian nationals which on the request of
Lufthansa, was relaxed till 24th Feb 2005.

Upon constant pursuing, our security department in Frankfurt has today
got a verbal confirmation that such an arrangement will be extended for
the next six months. As such you may travel without a transit visa via
Frankfurt.

Best Regards

Germany ariport transit visa
I am in a bind now. Already have tickets with Lufthansa in March for going to India. The consulate in Houston said that airport transit visa would be required in both directions. Since I need to get my L1 visa extension stamped, they will not issue the return transit visa. I will have to get the US visa extension as well as the return Germany transit visa stamped in Delhi in under three weeks. Almost impossible situation - guess I will have to look for alternatives and take the hit on LH cancellations.

Airport Transit Visa
I called up Lufthansa in Hyderabad and they did confirm that the airport transit visa is effective Feb 25th 2005. Normally , the airlines would deny boarding without improper documentation (in this case the airport transit visa). This happened to me earlier with Virgin Atlantic when I was travelling to India via London. I had a confirmation from my lawyers that I did not require a transit visa. They verified with their authorities before issuing me the boarding pass.

Confusion galore on Transit Visa
As per today, 22/2/2005, when I spoke to Lufthansa personnel, they said the transit visa is not needed for next 6 months starting 25/Feb/2005, though, there is no (official) communication/confirmation from the German consulate yet regarding the same. As my parents would be leaving for USA by Lufthansa, I am not sure as what todo at this point of time ?

If this is true, avoid Lufthansa
If Lufthansa had any business sense, they would have persisted with the German authorities and prevented such an asinine measure from being implemented.

Avoid using European airlines such as Lufthansa and British Airways. They will learn a lesson. Money speaks the loudest. I am sure business savvy places such as Dubai (Emirates) and Singapore will increase services to India.

We should lobby the Indian Govt. aviation ministry to take away airport slots from Lufthansa and give it to airlines that do not have such additional revenue generation measures to benefit the European governments.

Transit visa is required for Germany
For all Indian citizens, unless you have greencard with 10 year validity, transit visa is required for Germany, if you are coming to US in Lufthansa (or any other airline like Delta that has stop in Frankfurt.)

More information is available at https://www.immihelp.com/non-usa-transit-visa/

Grace period for this requirment is till Feb 24. After that, it is must. In other words, all visitors to US from India must get it if traveling through Germany, even if not getting out of airport.

Transit Visa required for Germany...
Transit Visa is required for travelling through Germany unless you have the 10-year I-551 card(Green card). Even if you have GC approved and have stamping in PP and don't have the card , you need the transit visa.

http://www.germany.info/Vertretung/usa/en/04__Legal/02__Directory__Services/01__Visa/__Transit__Country__List__Visa.html

This is a new rule published last week(feb 7 -11). When we called up the consulate in Houston they said that the grace period is until Feb 24,2005.
