Toronto consulate experience and 221g
Hi all,

I gave my H1B visa interview today at the Toronto consulate and wanted to share my experience.

1, No cell phones, electronic devices, or big backpacks are , check the website for all banned items. I took a normal file folder for documents and a key to my Airbnb, which was walking distance from the consulate. If you want to bring any of the banned items, you should go deposit them in a locker at the Staples store on University Ave, they'll charge you 5$ and give you a token or receipt which you can use to get your stuff back

2.The entrance to the consulate is on Simcoe st, parallel to Univ ave. Check you appointment details and assemble at the appropriate spot. The security will call out the appointment time and only those people are asked to line up, so only show up about 20-30 mins before your scheduled appointment time

3. You will be asked to show your passport at the main entrance, asked your appointment time and directed inside
4. Your stuff is scanned and you are checked by security, then you go to another counter where they check your DS-160 confirmation and passport
5. After this you will be sent inside a room with counters, here you will line up, then go to a counter where you are asked for passport, I797, proof of valid presence in Canada. I had not received PR when I filled out the DS-160 so I had to clarify that
6. At this counter my passport and I797 was put in a blue cover and I was given a" know your rights" pamphlet
7. Lined up and was fingerprinted at the next counter
8. Line up and wait for interview, this takes the longest, it took about 20-25 mins for my turn to come
9. My interview was taken by a very kind gentleman, he asked me details of my new role, location, research, what models I will be using, what interventions we are doing (I'm a biologist so I answered accordingly), how long I have been in the US, and what my salary would be. He misheard my salary and I had to clarify it, we joked about it.
10. He finally handed me a yellow slip and said they needed more details (my CV), which I mentioned I had with me, but he said it would still have to be submitted online. He sounded apologetic after I mentioned this had already happened to me twice before. He said he couldn't give a timeline and said they do their best to get it done soon. I said thanks and exited out of the consulate

The staff are very nice and overall the experience was good minus the admin processing, so now I will be waiting and will post updates when they come in. If anyone else is in the same boat, please email me on [email protected] or leave a message here, I would appreciate any info on timelines for 221g if you've gone through this process recently.

Thank you,
KM

Hi Everyone, this is the first time I am trying to get visa stamping in Toronto so very new to the process. I have started filling DS160 and in the meantime created an account to check the available slots with my draft DS160 form. Now in order to book an appointment, I have to pay $190 first which is fine but the first available appiintment is in Feb 2020 and I cannot wait for that long.

H4 visa stamping in Toronto, US petition vacated
Hi,

I’m looking for stamping dates in Toronto for h4 visa and filled my ds160 application I’m using the H1b visa approval petition number in ds160 for no and looking at appointment dates.. I wanted to know when should i inform to vacate my existing h4 extension application in US, couple of days before traveling and if by any chance it gets approved then would I be able to update my visa appointment petition number from husbands h1b to h4 extension approved. Also if I book an appointment today, are limited slots would I be able to change it later.
Also I’m looking for dates end of August and 1st week sept, if someone is cancelling if you could inform on this mail Id- [email protected]

Many thanks.

P.s i just saw 2nd August available in Toronto if someone wants it.
Also I have Canada pr card, so chosing option of Canadian residence as some people said pr card and copr works as residence proof though I’m currently in US but moving soon.,

H1B stamping in Toronto on 8/1/19
Hi everyone,

I am planning to go for H1B stamping at the Toronto US consulate. I have a job offer as a postdoc in the US, and this will be a stamping prior to joining the new position. I recently got my Canada PR card as well. I have a few questions and would appreciate any advice/help

1. Are we allowed to carry a plastic folder with documents to the consulate?
2. When I filled up my DS 160, I had not done my landing in Canada yet and hence said "no" to the PR question. Will I have to fill up a new DS 160 with the updated status?
3. My joining date and dates of travel will now change due to my interview date being later than anticipated. Do I need to update this information in a new DS 160
4. I have undergone 221g twice, so I fully expect it to happen again. Should I carry any documentation other than what is suggested on the consulate website? What is the normal 221g processing like currently

Thank you in advance!

2) If rejected, then will be able to return to US ?
Appreciate if anyone can share your experience.

H1B first-time extension; Approved and Issued
Hi,

I have been reading everyone's experiences on the forum for last few weeks, and info given here is extremely helpful. Thank you everyone!! Thought I'd share my experience from this week in Vancouver.

I got lucky in getting appointment when I booked in June.. I was seeing earliest one was in Nov/Dec. Plus for me only Vancouver/Calgary could work out. After a few days, I got lucky and got 8.15 AM appointment on 07/24.

I would like to clear a very common question I see on the forum: If you take appointment at a different location (Vancouver in my case) than what you chose while submitting DS-160 (mine was Calgary when submitting), you DO NOT need to fill out a new DS-160. I repeat, PLEASE don't go through hassle of filling out, submitting and carrying two DS-160 confirmations.

Instead, email Vancouver (or wherever your appointment is) consulate customer service and ask them the question "Do I need a new DS-160 etc.." They will say you do not need one. Just carry a print-out of that email for a proof, just in case. At no point during my appointment at the consulate was I asked about the Calagary vs Vancouver related question...

Here's my experience:

Application: FTE with well-know US employer, no company change since first time H1. Previous visa still valid, a month left for validity.

07/24 8.15 AM appointment:
Security check. More security check with X-ray. Finger-print and screening on DS-160. Then go to 20th floor for interview.

Questions:
1. Who do you work for?
2. What do you do?
3. Have you worked for the same employer?
4. Are you paid competitively?? (!!!I said yes to this and told him my package, VO strongly nodded, and told me "I don't need to know the number, just yes or no". This took me slightly by surprise.. any way!!!)
5. Do you have a masters, from where?

He then proceeded to put a stamp on current H1, which I guess was a cancellation stamp. Handed me the booklets, and said visa is approved, and you will get PP in 3-5 business day.

07/24 - Admin Processing
07/25 - Admin Processing
07/26 10 AM - Issued.

I hope to get the passport back by Monday. I wish everyone who is in this process good-luck!
