Visiting visa for parents---2nd interview
My parents tried for a visitng visa last month from chennai and got rejected. My dad is a State govt. employee and mom is a house wife.My sister is a greencard holder and she sponsored my parents.During the interview, they didnt even look at the sponsorship documents.....they asked my dad the following questions

1Q.How many children do u have and what do they do
-My Dad answered 3 children...elder son in India, working for a corporate bank, elder daughter working in U.S ,green card holder and youngest son studying in U.S.

2Q.Whats your salary?
-My dad answered that 30,000 pm

They didnt get their visa.
Now, we r guessing that may be counsulate officer calculated my dad's salary and decided its too low.He didnt see any of our property documents. We can show a property of ard 50-60 lacs .Also ,Iam a graduate now on H1 B .Would it be better if my parents dont disclose any information abt me?

My parents are attending a 2nd interview during the last week of this month.

IN laws got visitor visa without original BC.
My father in law ( FIL ) being 60 he had used the drop box in Pune on 5/12. They didn't have my wife(their daughters) original BC. Instead they had obtained NON AVAILABILITY certificate from Ooty muncipality where she was born. We had used the same NON-AVAIL cert about 2 years back for our green cards which we got 2 yrs back. So the lady at Pune dropbox mentioned they will have to goto Bombay consulate for interview as she has no authority to approve visa without original BC. She set a 5/20 appointment for 11 am. They went today
and got visas approved. The officer didnt ask anything about BC.
q) How many children do u have?
a) 2. Son is in Singapore and daughter in US
They had visited Singapore,Malaysia and Thailand about 1 yr back.
q) Who will pay for all the travel?
a) Son in law.

He then asked for my affidavit of support and went thru it carefully. He also went thru my 2002 tax returns and bank statements. He then said ok you can collect passport in evening. before them 2 other couples had their visas rejected.

Visitor visa experience at Pune
If your parents(any one) is/are above 60+ they qualify for a dropbox. The dropbox procedure is very simply. All you have to do is submit the required documents along with visa application DS-156 form & two Demand Drafts.

My parents, in-laws got a visitor visa recently through dropbox Pune. Here are the details how it was at Pune.

At the drop application center it is not required for one to be present personally, your representative can also submit the documents on your behalf. My brother who is India submitted the documents for my parents & in-laws.

The person at the counter looks at the documents you have submitted. He/she will check the documents and will keep only the required documents with them. Documents which are not required are returned back to you. Original Birth Certificate of the child is required otherwise they will not accept the application

The person at the counter will then put the center's stamp on the photocopy of the first page of each applicant's passport. This photocopy has to be shown to the bluedart person who delivers the passport. Without this photocopy the bluedart person will not hand you the passport.

The whole process does not take more than 20 min if the documents your submitted are correct. It takes approx 3-4 working days to get the visa.

The person at the counter did not ask any questions.
Hope this helps.

B2 Visa approved - Delhi
My parents went for their B2 Visa yesterday and after what seemed like a looong wait, their visa was approved. There were around 600 people in the queue and though they were supposed to be interviewed at 10am (according to the appointment !), they had to wait till 11:30 for their turn. The interviewer grilled them, but they had been well prepared thanks to all the information on this website (keep up the good work guys...) and came out smiling !

There were a few fine points I think everyone should know and that helps your applications stand apart from the countless the officers see each day. Let me know if you need further details.

Once again, thanks to the website and people on this forum who have posted their experiences. I don't generally speak out, but felt it was time I gave something back.

Good luck to everyone out there who have their fingers crossed !

Hope this is helpful for all of you in need of this information.

Visitor visa experience in Mumbai
I work on EAD, and wanted to invite my parents to US for the first time.
First, I had sent the required docs (thanks to immihelp for comprehensive details), but did not send AP/485 receipt, that was a mistake.

Parents went to Pune office of the consulate. The office asked them to get 'notice of action' (presumably, 485 receipt.) Faxed AP & receipt to India.

Next day (thursday) they went again to the office. Papers accepted, and appointment given for Monday 9AM.

Monday, they went to Raj travels pavilion (Raj charges Rs. 100 per person fee for use of their facility. Fee includes breakfast). The travels' bus took them to consulate.

Both parents were called for interview, but only mom was asked to answer. Parents asked for a Marathi interpreter. Interpreter lady and visa officer, both were nice and courteous. Visa approved after a few questions:
1. Where are you going in US?
2. Why? (tourism, see Niagara etc, and see family)
3. What does your Son do in US? Same Q for daughter-in-law.
4. What is your profession. Same q for dad.

That's it. They asked to pay fees, and pick up visa same evening 6 PM.
Mom's visa was alright, but on dad's visa, passport number was printed wrong. He went back the next day, and the problem was corrected.

Visa issued for 6 months.

Moral: NEVER LEAVE CONSULATE BEFORE CHECKING VISA THOROUGHLY.

All pages of passport required
While sponsoring my parents' visitor visa, I sent only those pages from the passport that had anything on it.

But the consulate asks for copies of all the pages, even the blank pages. Please make sure to send copies of all 36 pages when sponsoring your parents' visitor visa.

Mother got visitor visa at second interview
im so happy to share this info with you....my mother(aged 51 and retired) and father(aged 52 and doctor in private practise) both applied for visitor visa to the US last month and BOTH were refused visa under section 214 b stating that they wont come back since im the only son......the visa officer then didn't see any papers, not even the Affidavit of Support i sent ........

second time we consulted one immigration advisor who suggested us that only my mother should apply the visa second time as she'll able to show one emotional tie back in india(her husband)......taking this in mind,my mother reapplied the visa today and was granted a visa this time........though after an extensive interview during which she was able to convince the visa officer that she'll definitely come back........at the end , the officer said im giving u the visa, didn't specify whether single or multiple entry which we'll come to know shortly when the passport arrives in mail..........
