  • Some positive movement to report! My case status just changed to "Ready to be scheduled for an interview".
Any idea what could be my interview date? My field office is Seattle, and processing center is NBC. I have got a medical exam scheduled for mid-September. I am wondering if this is too early or too late.
If the interview date is too far away, then this medical exam might become invalid. I think the exam is valid for 2 years, but it must be submitted within 60 days of the medical exam. Am I right? If this is true, then I must not schedule it more than 60 days in advance of the interview date.
On the other hand, if the interview date comes out to be close, it might be too late.

Yes, I received this last year in October. It was a pink letter titled "I-693 Deficiency Notice". It said do not mail documents at this time. And that if I receive an interview notice, then I must bring it with me to the interview.

I read a bit of the USCIS policy manual, and it sounds like 60 days thing only applies when submitting I-693 along with the application. If submitting after the application, then 2 years validity is the only thing to take into account.

          Quote from USCIS policy manual:

A completed Form I-693 submitted to USCIS on or after November 1, 2018 retains its evidentiary value to support a finding that an applicant is not inadmissible based on health-related grounds if it meets any of the following scenarios:
          • The civil surgeon signs Form I-693 no more than 60 days before the applicant files the underlying benefit application with USCIS; and USCIS issues a decision on the underlying benefit application no more than 2 years after the date of the civil surgeon’s signature.
          • The civil surgeon signs the Form I-693, and the applicant submits Form I-693, after the applicant files the benefit application with USCIS; and USCIS issues a decision on the underlying benefit application no more than 2 years after the date of the civil surgeon’s signature.

In all cases, a Form I-693 signed by a civil surgeon more than 60 days before the applicant files the underlying benefit application is insufficient for evidentiary purposes as of the time of its submission to USCIS. The table below illustrates these scenarios.

There are a couple of reports where the Interview Officer insists that the doctor must sign less than 60 days before the date they receive the sealed envelope. Just to be extra careful I would talk with the doctor and ask if they can delay the signature until you know your interview date, or if they are willing to give you a new sealed envelope with a newer signature date.

Ohh damn! Thanks for this info. I would try postponing the appointment if I don't get the notice by that time.

                    • Update:
12/30/2021 Got email notification that they have taken action, but nothing showed up on website, and no mails arrived at my address. (I think they probably sent the application from NBC to my local field office at this time, and no real action was taken, hence no notice).
                      3/1/2022 I-130 is approved.
3/1/2022 USCIS sent RFE for medicals and this arrived from my local field office.

Now, I am in the process of sending my medicals.

I am not sure if my interview has been waived, but I have a suspicion that it has been waived even though mine is a marriage based application. When I had first received the I-693 Deficiency/Courtesy notice 2 years ago, it said (paraphrasing):
                      • if you receive an interview notice, you must bring the medicals to interview appointment.
                      • if your case does not require an interview, you will receive a RFE with further instructions.
Based on this, I believe my interview is about to be waived off. I will update how it goes. If you have any insights, please share.
