  • Dario Alessandro Idrovo Idrovo;n757851]So our interview is end of April, and the letter asks for a bunch of documents, 90% of them we already sent with the application, do we need to print everything again and bring it?

-they asked for bona fide proof like pictures, etc... we sent about 100 with the application
-they asked also for my birth certificate, I am the petitioner and born in a foreign country, there’s no consulate in my city for my country, idk what to do to obtain this.
-they asked for my bank statements and tax records, again we sent this as well with the application
-Medical records with form which we scheduled for next week
-All travel documents for my spouse, we sent this we the application, they specified copies otherwise they will need to keep the originals
-they asked for my pay stubs for last 12 months, why? Idk but I did originally send them for the previous 6 months

most of everything seems to be around finances, though between the both of us, we both being engineers working for tech companies we both make a lot, so not sure why all the requests for this.

anyways, any advice on my birth certificate, I don’t understand why wouldn’t they ask for my passport which proves my citizenship? It’s going to be tough to obtain a modern copy of my birth certificate, my current one is hand written by my country’s government lol

there is also a line that says “Bring copies of all documents and forms sent with the original application” why? And does this mean we have to print and assemble our whole 300 page application packet?

@ Dario Alessandro Idrovo - I think it must just be a standard letter because we got the EXACT same one.

In all honesty we arent going to take all of the things already submitted either. Its such a hhuge waste of paper.

We are taking just the things from the submittion date forward - which to be fair there isnt a lot of. Due to covid we didnt see family at xmas and its too cold in chicago to do much outside over winter - and i was away all of Jan too.

It dosent say you HAVE to bring all the original things again, it just says if you dont then to be aware theyre going to keep everything you originally sent.

You mention you guys are engineers - we are business owners and aso make good $. Im wondering i thats the reason our applications were processed so quickly. That would be sad if it was true, but i feel its likely.

    • I had my interview a few weeks ago and just got notice that a new card is being produced.

The interview was really straight forward. I took my I-693, our passports/birth certificates & notice letter. We had some extra photos on hand but none of it was needed. Nothing was asked about finances etc.

      Asked really simple questions:

      "How did you meet?"
      "What's your spouses parents names"
"What's your spouses date of birth"

And then ran through the questions you have already completed on the I-485. (Are you a criminal etc.?)

Took exactly 3 weeks to get notification that it was successful.

Does anyone have any idea if this means my interview is waived? and in case it is waived, how far am I from getting my case approved?

          Thanks a lot.

          • We got the EAD card on April 2, 2021. Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the Social Security Card after this? Is there a way to track the status of the SS? Is there a way to find out what the SS number is before the card arrives?

Does anybody have any idea how long it might take for the interview to be scheduled. I did some research and it says it can take up to 24 months, which I really don't hope is the case.
I'm applying in the Dallas, TX office.
It’s case by case actually, depends on who is handling your case. Ours took 21 days from the “your case is ready to be schedule for an interview” to “your interview has been scheduled” two months total from the day it change until our interview date.

We decided to drive from chicago to CO to visit his mum right after (as we havnt seen her for a while due to covid and now we are all vaccinated) the interview then ill fly back to oregon from CO. We were going to do that trip at the end of May when i got back but bumped it forward,

We werent expecting the interview til at least november so were stunned when it was scheduled so soon!
Yes same date for Chicago for us! Yes, we also were quite shocked that our interview was only a month after we received the letter, which is a good thing when it comes to citizenship, which is the next step!

Good observation, def coincidence on our dates and processing time. Our lawyer had originally told us it will take us about 12 months from day of submission because of COVID. Unless whoever is handling cases is fast enough and handling both our cases? That would be crazy! Ha!

Anyways, good to hear that you got the exact same letter, sounds like it’s just a template they use for all applications. We have gathered everything so far that we didn’t send with the original application and now just waiting for the interview day to come. We fly out the next day so hopefully it can be a celebratory trip. We’ve both been vaccinated as well. Def best of luck!

Congrats! Seems these interview questions might be same across? My friend was also asked this during his interview. Shocked me they ask about parents, me and my husband’s parents didn’t have a relationship because they were very anti-LGBT so never really thought of learning much of his parents info. His father passed from COVID last year, but I still don’t have a relationship with his mother. I do know their names though.

This is a very belated post but I would like to share my i-485 timeline with you as well. I am married to USC; same-sex couple; living in Phoenix AZ.
I would like to use my experience to tell you that you can be proactive and really push things forward. In my case, I requested the bio appt and the EAD expedite myself instead of waiting endlessly, and they both worked.

                              9/21/2020 Package delivered
                              10/1/2020 Application fee charged
                              10/5/2020 Received text messages for receipt notice of I-485, I-130, I-131, I-765
10/14/2020 Receipts for the 4 forms delivered in letters
12/31/2020 Received I-693 deficiency notice letter
1/4/2021 I called USCIS to request a biometrics appointment and they submitted a job request for me

3/12/2021 EAD expedite request approved! (I totally wasn't expecting it since I read about it and the approval rate is incredibly low!)

4/16/2021 Finished my medical exam (took me two rounds over two weeks since I didn't have a vaccination record), received I-693 in sealed envelope from the doctor

He told us to expect the approval notice and the card in the next 3-4 weeks! This will be a 2-year conditional card since our marriage is less than 2 years.)
4/20/2021 New card is being produced
4/21/2021 I-485 and I-130 showing case was approved. And approval notices were sent.

                              • Hello All,

We just got back home from our interview at the Chicago field office, unfortunately, they did not approve our application on the spot. We received an RFE and have 84 days to submit the documentation requested.

                                Questions Asked:
                                1. How did you meet?
                                2. Who approached the other person first?
                                3. Do you live together?
                                4. Any biological kids?
                                5. Ever been married before?
                                6. What do you do for work?
                                7. Are you in each other's work 401k as beneficiaries? (Mind you, my husband doesn't qualify for this as he is here on a visa) The officer made an eye roll when we said my husband didn't have a 401k. But he is a beneficiary under all my policies and my 401k as well
                                Reason for RFE:
We did not have the original birth certificate, we had a certified copy we obtained from the embassy, but somehow we needed this copy from 1990, which my husband doesn't have.

I don't want to insult the officer or anything, but he was quite old, he had to be in his late 80s, could barely get through the application without struggling. I only say this because he refused the certified modern copy of my husband's birth certificate and stated we needed the one from 1990. I have never heard of such a thing before as most countries have now moved to computerized systems.

Now, we pretty much have to see if we can fly to his home country and hope we can obtain this handwritten birth certificate. I am not sure if this will be overlooked, but he did mention that his supervisor will audit the application as well, I am not sure if it will be before or after we submit the handwritten document.

                                Good Luck to yall!
