Renunciation Procedure using VFS

Update For timeline reference : I applied for the renunciation on 1/18/2021 and the Fed ex delivered on 1/19/2021. I got an email from VFS-Chicago that they received the package today 1/20 and to expect 48-72 business hours for review the application . I am still not able to track in their system as i believe it may take few days for them to enter in their system . I hope to get this renunciation completed by end of Jan and apply OCI .

I have been waiting for my sons New OCI for over a month now..

Today I got an email from VFS to pay $15 for the courier service. Does it mean I will get my oci card in a while.. I am not sure why I was asked to pay for courier service as I have sent the return label. Could it be because they sent my sons passport back through FedEx after document verification phase.

Let me know if anyone of you got similar email

They have recently included the $15 for passport return in the OCI application process. It was not there earlier and hence they are asking for it.

sinnerman26 I still have to work on the OCI after I get my canceled passport back. It annoys me that they are not clear. Yes I was having trouble filling out the renunciation form I printed it typed and the one that didn’t fit I hand wrote it. They wanted it back in 7 calendar days so I did my best to FedEx ASAP. Thanks for your help. This group is very active and does have a lot of information we all can share.

sinnerman26 Thanks alot!! It is for renunciation. Thumb impression is not required, I was confused as there was signature slash thumb impression. I guess I misunderstood the online signature as I do not see anywhere to upload it but I read it again and what I understand is they just needed my signature on the application form and resent it again. I understand why it can be confusing. I had the same questions when I was doing my renunciation. Their checklist is incorrect when they ask for digital signature and all that. That's for OCI and not Renunciation. For Renunciation you just sign the filled out document. Same with photograph. You affix one photo on the government surrender form and send another copy with your application. I also had issues filling out the Renunciation with the PDF file they had provided. I believe others have complained and mentioned about it here as well. If you have difficulty filling it out, I'd recommend using either a PDF editing tool or Snagit or Photoshop.

I have sent my original passport then why do they need the RC certificate? Also where do I get that from. They are talking about online form signature, any idea how to do that? Please help me with this

Is this for Renunciation or OCI?

When I applied for Renunciation, I did not do any online signatures. I printed out the Renunciation Certificate and signed it myself with a pen. But this was in the early days when VFS just went live and procedures may have changed.

The Renunciation certificate should be on the VFS checklist when you apply for Renunciation.

Not sure why thumb impression is required unless the application is for a minor.

If you do need a digital signature, then write it on a blank white piece of paper. Take a picture and use MS Paint to crop and edit as per the requirements provided by VFS.

I added myself as a customer but then it asks me to add shipping label details. how can I have shipping label when I am not even sure my application went through. How did you get shipping label details updated ?

You just enter your address after that it'll proceed to payment and get you shipping labels.

vivekgovind Takes 4-6 weeks from that date. So may be you should get back your OCI card in next 2-3 weeks.

My sons OCI card status is showing as "application has reached the embassy" since December 14, 2020.... does anyone know how long does it take to receive the card.

Track it at OCI-Services (status enquiry) you will know when it gets approved and is sent back to the concerned US embassy from MEA in India
