tinak I was able to download both outgoing and return label from VFS portal during both my renunciation and OCI applications. Don't know if they changed the system now. May be now VFS might be printing the return label themselves and not asking applicants to print and send! Need to confirm from more recent or current applicants.

Additional particular form is not needed. Again VFS instructions is a like a maze! Instructions says us to send 2 photos. However, I sent only 1 photo stuck on the government application form and no extra ones and it was accepted. In OCI application, I had sent 2 photos just to be sure but they returned 1 photo back with the US passport. They are too lazy or indifferent to correct and update their instructions.as they know we can't go to any other provider for Consular needs. It's a monopoly!

Please get the checklist from this site (Under required documents section) - https://www.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/...n-citizenship/

Also, where did you find the " Additional particular form", it's mentioned in the checklist but couldn't find the form on VFS website?

However, with credit card they charge 3.5% convenience fee (Yes, VFS tries to profit and ripoff applicants as much as they can). But I used a credit card with 2% cashback so effectively I paid 1.5% convenience fee! Which was not too much of a difference compared to money order. Also I have heard that shipping services from VFS is not available if you select money order (Need to confirm this from others who have used money order option). But it is recommended that you buy shipping from VFS so use credit card if that is possible.

I sent in my renunciation certificate through the prepaid VFS system. It was delivered on January 8 in San Francisco. It has been almost a month and the tracker gives me invalid inputs. I have to see my father and I cannot get any update from VFS. I have sent over 50 emails and everyday I get the same response. This is the most inefficient way to run a business.

My Indian passport was returned to me. It was stamped "canceled" in 2003 when I applied for a visa to India. So VFS has not provided anything else to me and I am not sure how I can resolve this. To apply for an emergency visa I need the renunciation certificate. How much longer should I have to wait as I really have an emergency and I am getting no help.

    Dear ZZZ

Thank you for contacting the VFS Indian Visa, Passport & OCI
Application Center Help Desk in the United States.

This is not the kind of experience we want our customers to
    have.

We understand that you want to know the status of your
    application.

We have resumed our operations at the San Francisco center with
limited capacity. Our processing ability is unfortunately impacted and
has resulted in a longer wait time before the complete application is
forwarded to the Consulate General of India in San Francisco. You can
email us through the Contact Us link for any additional information.
Our call centers will also be operational for any queries.Inconvenience
    is deeply regretted.

We would like to inform you that our system is not updated. We
are working on it once updated will inform you by SMS.

In case of further assistance, please feel free to reply to the
same email or you may contact us on ** 800 320 9693 and we will be
    glad to assist you.

    Best Regards,
    Shajo

I did get the canceled Passport. but the Renunciation Certificate is just not looking professional certificate at all .It is the same form we filled and sent from the PDF from their site .The Renunciation certificate was folded like 4 times and even hard for me to recognize that as an official document which need to be kept with us for ever (As per the instructions in the bottom of that certificate ).

Send them separately, Most likely they will return it.

That's been my experience with the Chicago consulate as well. Don't worry about it. As long as the consular stamp and signatures are there you're good to go. Do make multiple copies of the Renunciation/Surrender Certificate and your canceled Indian passport as you're going to need it for OCI as well as just for safe keeping.

OCI is definitely frustrating but once you have all your papers ready and have the digital copies, it's a straight forward process as well. Just takes somewhat longer. The pre-prep work is the most annoying and time consuming part of the OCI process. Just set aside a few hours and compile your documents. Feel free to reach out or post questions in a different thread if you're stuck at any point.

Thanks for your prompt reply and guiding us in the journey of the Indian passport renunciation and OCI process. VFS website instructions are cumbersome and the form itself was not made proper way hard to download and fill in the information. I have to seek help from my friend to fit all the information (:

This forum has been very helpful to guide us through.....things are easier now.... thanks for the input!

    1. I am ( married/ not married/ etc). should I write my current status or past status when I received my Indian passport?

    2. On the very end section " Full name of applicant": should I write the current surname or the previous one?

    3. "Signature of Application": sign with the current surname or old one?

I guess you have already applied for renunciation by now. Any suggestion will be helpful?

    [QUOTE=marathon_running;n749753]Hi Guys,

I need help with name we need to put on both Government Application Online Form and Renunciation Certificate. My wife's name on her India's passport has her last name before marriage and her US passport (and the naturalization certificate) has my last name. The guidelines from VFS (link given given below) say that we need to put the details based on existing passport. Does it mean Indian Passport or US passport?

    https://www.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/...-june-2010.pdf

Specifically, I am looking for name for

    1) Applicant's Name under Applicant Details in Government Application Online Form
    2) Three places where we need to enter name in the Renunciation Certificate

I read somewhere else that name on the Renunciation Certificate needs to be name on the Indian Passport. If that is true, I am not sure how one can solemnly declare and sign on the Certificate (which is what the Certificate requires) when the name is not legally correct.

I contacted VFS, but did not receive any reply from them.

Has anyone run into similar issue? If so, please let me know how you applied.
