Hi, a friend of mine is visiting from Germany and living with my parents. She had to call a hotline in Germany and pay lots of $$ to be told that she could stay here for a maximum of 6 months on a B1/B2 visa. So she went through all the bureaucracy, did the interview, and ended up getting a 10 year B1/B2 visa. The problem is, the border officer at the airport put a stamp for 90 days in her passport AFTER asking to see her return ticket for October 1, 2005. She was intimidated at the time, so she didn't notice it or say anything right away. In any case, a 90 day limit makes the visa superfluous since she is eligible for the Visa Waiver Program as an EU citizen, which allows her to enter the US for 90 days without a visa.
Is there any way to have this 90 day limit extended by talking to the border control people? She had purchased a return flight for October because a one-way flight is a) impossible without a visa and b) prohibitively expensive. And nobody made it clear to her throughout the process that she could still be limited to a 90 day stay (or no stay at all!).
