Renewal of H4 dependent child passport while H1B extension is pending with USCIS
I have submitted my child passport along with completed CKGS application, it is currently on HOLD due to Incomplete documents. They are asking for BOTH of the parents receipt notice. I got charged lot of money for calling CKGS but they keep on giving different answers. Currently I have only my H1B receipt notice. Requested USCIS for my wife's receipt notice copy. They said they will send it, waiting for the document, once received will send those documents to CKGS for processing, very frustrating.
Does any one know:
1. Do we need to submit receipt notice of both parents?
2. I have completed 'Affidavit for No Status Form' form as per CKGS checklist and provided the USCIS receipt number in the box and mentioned the reason as
I could not apply for renewal / reissue of my passport in time due to H1B extension application is pending with USCIS for more than seven months. Does it look good?
3. Do I need to go physically to Indian consulate at Houston to get this process completed quickly?
4. Is physically going to consulate at Houston is mandatory for all pending at USCIS cases?

Fresh passport for new born baby
I have applied for a fresh passport for my new born baby through CKGS Washington DC. I have submitted my application and since Dec 17, 2018 it is pending at embassy. I am not sure how much time will it take?
I contact CKGS regarding this and they said that now it would be a sole discretion of embassy. I tried to reach the number provided and no one picked up so far I tried for 7-8 times. Also, I have emailed them (4 Jan 2019) to get the answer. I haven't received any reply yet.

Passport Renewal at SFO
My Passport has been under processing at the SF consulate since 5th Dec and I finally received it today.
Sharing my experience hoping it would help people that have immediate travel plans to India but are still waiting for their passports:
Called CKGS post the 3 weeks timeline on Dec 28th and was told that the embassy is facing technical issues and no passports would be issued until Jan7th. Was ready to withdraw my passport as I have travel plans for next week and as a last resort I had called up the emergency line at the SFO consulate and told them my situation. They asked me to send an email to [email protected] describing the situation and they immediately responded saying that my passport would be dispatched the same day. They dispatched it the same day and I received my passport in 2 days. Kudos to the people at the SF consulate.
My Recommendation:
If it's already been 20 working days since your passport reached the consulate and you have a travel emergency, please send an email or call the consulate. If the regular line doesn't work please call the emergency line. They are very helpful.
Don't waste your time reaching out to CKGS as they just give you standard responses which are of no help and also rip you off by charging you when you call them.

Passport Renewal at Washington DC
Submitted passport for renewal on Dec 3 and received by the embassy on Dec 4th. It has been more than 4 weeks and the application is still in process. Any other folks waiting for more than 4 weeks to renew their passport?

I applied for passport renewal and it reached embassy on Nov 20. I have travel plans to India on Dec 20 and I just got a reply from CKGS that processing of renewal might take more time because of a system upgrade.
is there a way to get back the old passport and stop the renewal process? There are couple of months remaining in my passport and I can use that to travel. Thanks.

Passport Renewal
Finally today on Dec 3rd , passport is received. My case was there with Embassy from Oct 29th till Nov 29th. I have sent emails to Embassy describing the emergency of travel. So whoever is waiting still long can send email to embassy and then can push your case .
