My parents got 3mths visa
My parents applied for 6mths visa at chennai counsilate and the visa was issued for just 3mths.
They are planning to come in the last week of august and their visa is stamped from aug 4th to Nov 4th.So, do they have to go back before nov 4th.
Is it good idea to apply for a visa extension for them? Please suggest if anyone went through the similar situation.

Thanks

3 months visa
Hi

I'd like to share my parents' experiences. Both my parents are senior citizens and went the drop box way. The too were issued only a 3 months visa. Although we were dissappointed, we thought at least they were not denied a visa.

When they landed here the immigration officer was surprised that they were only issued a 3 month visa and asked them to meet his superior. The superior asked them why they did not ask for a six month visa in Mumbai itself. When my parents told him about the drop box, he asked them to return in 3 months this time and said next time we will issue a visa for a longer period.

He also made a note implying that they are not eligible for an extension in the passport with his pen.

Thanks
Makesh

Visitor visa approved
My mother got approved for a visitor's visa. She was sent
back twice by the administrative office (where she had to
submit the drop-box). The reason was that I had not submitted
blank pages of my passport. Once submitted, the page numbers
were not clear. The visa is for 6 months.

Hope you guys find this info helpful.

Visitor visa approved for 1 year at Mumbai
Hello guys,

My parents had been rejected the visitor visa first time at Mumbai Consulate without looking at a single document.

But I'm glad to inform you that they were lucky this time, last Thursday (12th June) they appeared for the interview at Mumbai Consulate again and were granted a visitor visa for 1 year.

The only document the officer (actually the hindi translator) looked at was the financial support affidavit that I had prepared for my mother and father.

I had sent a new set of paystubs, invitation/consulate letters, 2002 tax return, affidavits. The only difference I made in all the documents was about the period of stay. I changed it to 3 months from 6 months. In addition to these documents, they had my birth certificate, property documents, bank passbooks and property affidavit.

Questions asked : (M for mother and F for father)

Q. Why was your visa rejected last time?

A. Honestly we don't know, they didnt look at any of our documents.

Q. Are you going to come back?

A. Yes.
(M) I have a job here. We are going to stay in the US for 3 months only.

Q. What do you do?

A. (M) work as a highschool teacher
(F) retired, receive pention.

Q. How much do you earn?

A. (M) Rs. 6000/-
(F) Rs. 4000/-

Q. Family information

A. Two sons, one works in the US, another in India.

Q. How much does the US-based son earn?

A. xxK per annum.

Then he carefully looked at the affidavit.

Q. Where are you going to stay in the US.

A. xxxxx, XX

After this, he said, we are going to give you a visa for 1 year.

Thank god!

Finally thanks thanks for all the help!

Good luck!

Got 10 year visa
My mom got visa for 10 years, first time she got 6 months. We have appplied again through drop box after 1 1/2 years. We have sent all the necessary documents mentioned in the site. We did not send birth certificate. It took 10 days probably because of Chennai consulate processing time. Thanks to everybody for the good feedback
