Adjustment in Hoboken, New Jersey
Thank you so much to everyone who shared their experiences, it definitely helped with my expectations. I would like to share mine experience now. First of all, if someone is doubting if they can do everything by themselves, I would say - you totally can! We were a little worried, cause everyone would ask us if we had a lawyer and we did almost everything on our own. We received an advice from a notary which actually created more problems for us, as he did more mistakes in our paperwork if we did everything on our own.
So our case is based on marriage, here is our timeline:
12/22/2015 - sent a package with these documents: I-130, my and husband's G-325, I-485, I-765, I-864, copy of Marriage certificate, my and husband's birth certificates, My visa copy, Copy of front page of my passport, Stamp in passport, My work petition, I was here on L visa, husband's tax return, husband's W2, my I-94, my 2 photos, Check $1490. I didn't have my medical exam at a time of sending the paperwork.
12/28/2015 - Priority date
01/07/2016 - Check cashed
01/13/2016 - Received receipt confirmations from USCIS (I-797C for employment authorization and Adjustment of status case), possibly letters arrived earlier, but we were out of town. It looks like USCIS received all our docs on 12/28/2015 and mailed the notifications on 01/07/2016
01/23/2016 - Received a letter for biometrics appointment, the letter was sent on 01/20. Appointment was for 02/03/2016. Went to do my biometrics in Elisabeth NJ, was 10 min late, but they let me in. I filled out an application form, my last name and middle name on the form was changed by ASC manager due to taking husband's last name. The whole procedure of finger prints and photo took 2 hours
02/04/2016 - Received a letter of a Request for Initial Evidence that was mailed on 01/29/2016. The form that we filled out has expired, so we had to fill out a new one with a new expiration date
02/22/2016 - got a notice (dated 2/16) from immigration hat they haven't received my medical exam and to wait until further notice when to send it or show it during interview
02/24/2016 saw an update on the website that they are ready to schedule an interview
03/26/2016 - Received EAD card
07/27/2016 - Interview appointment text received, interview for 8/30
on 8/30 had the interview in Newark, NJ. we had to wait for 2 hours before we got called in. The officer was nice and said it won't take too long. We had to swear that we are saying the truth. He checked our driver's licenses, asked for passports, birth certificates, marriage license. He asked my husband - how we met, when did we exchange our contact information, when approximately we started dating, when was our first date, what did we do on our first date if we went for ice cream afterwards. If we had a wedding, and we had religious or civil ceremony and if we had a honeymoon. In our case we didn't, cause we had a family emergency, so we had to cancel or plans. He also why we got married in NC if we live in NJ, but we explained that's where we lived at a time. He asked who attended the court with us. Then he asked me about my application, my full name, my husbands name, the address, my and my husband's date of birth. Also just standard questions "Yes/No" where they ask if you had any criminal activity etc. He asked where I worked and what was my position. When was the last time I entered USA and through what port and under what status. He didn't ask me anything about our relationship with my husband. Then he asked for supportive documents, as lease, correspondence, bills on the same name, insurance, pictures. He kept all of it, so make sure you have a copy of the pictures somewhere, because you won't get them back :) He asked if we have a bank account together and we don't, because we like to have our finances separately. Then he said that we are done and if we had any questions for him. I asked when will we get an update and he said that it usually takes around 2-4 weeks. We also offered to show him scrapbook that I made from years ago, but he said that it's not necessary and that he got all the information. Overall, I had an impression that it didn't go too well cause we didn't have normal things that I guess happen for the couples who got married and my husband (probably because of stress) was very short and dry with the answers. And officer didn't ask me anything about our relationship... But we'll see, I hope we had enough proof that we have a true marriage.
09/06/2016 - received texts that the case was approved and also got notices in the mail
09/08/2016 - got an update that the card was mailed
09/20/2016 - received my card in a mail
Yay! So happy! We are finally relieved with my husband.

Hi Everyone, My spouse (GC holder) applied my I-130 and got approved within 1-2 months. The Priority date mentioned on the NOA was june 2015. Now according to the new visa bulletin, my PD is not earlier than final action date; so PD is not current, but Filing date was current (2nd table) and applied for AOS (USCIS publish each month which table to use for I-485 filing from visa bulletin) with form I-485 with EAD and parole card as well at the end of March 2016. Received my EAD card on june 2016. Now how long it will take to get a decision on I-485 approval since my actual priority date from (June 2015) is still not current according the visa bulletin. Will USCIS start evaluating I-485 application after the priority date will become current?
I-485 status check only shows "Finger-Print fee Received" as of today.
Please feel free to share if you have similar situation.
Thanks,
Hi everyone, i check this site everyday and learn a lot by reading your posts. I'm married to USC. we got married in AUG 5, 2015. We filled combo package at Chicago locker box on 8th of July 2016. It's been 64 days but still all case status is on Case Received on 8th of July. I'm wondering about my EAD. Getting good job offer's but can't work until i receive my EAD. Here is my timeline:
Jyly 7, 2016: - Sent package with I-765, I-485, I-131, I-130.
July 8, 2016: - Package received by USCIS
July 21, 2016: - Received I-797 for all applications
July 27, 2016: - Received notice for bio metrics scheduled on 2 Aug, 2016
Aug 2, 2016: - Bio-metrics done at Fairfax, VA
Sice then i have no update on EAD or anything else. We are from Virginia and all of my application numbers starts with MSC. I don't know exactly what that means. I have seen few post where they mentioned the query. I tried to raise query for my EAD update but it didn't let me do so. It says the application is withing processing time. Please help me with that. And also we don't know which service center or field office our case is in. Thanks to everyone for sharing there experience ere. It's really helpful.
Guys,
Every week, we have someone asking if they have to re-do their medical exam as it has been/will be a year since it was done. The answer is YES. Based on my lawyer, the IO will NOT approve the 485, if he/she does not have a valid 693 (less than 1 year). You must have seen cases where the IO asks for the 693 and the applicant has the i130 approved but not 485, until the paperwork is mailed and processed. That is exactly what the lawyer said as well. My sincere advice, if you can afford it, get a new test done if you're remotely close to the 1 year period. The IO may or may not approve your 458 for several reason, but even if everything is legit, will not approve without a valid 693. So its up to you guys. You can take the risk and hope the IO won't ask for it or he does ask for it and you lose 2-3 months to get your GC. One of my friend had similar issue. CT field office. She had a baby and was pregnant with her 2nd clid and married for 2 years at the time of interview. So IO had no issues approving her for a 10 year GC, but he couldn't as her 693 expired. Her interview was on July 13th, 2016 and even though she sent her new 693 within 2 weeks, her 485 is still pending. She did an info pass and was given told that it is in processing and expected to be approved within 30 days. So that is 3 months delay. I hope I made my point
So earlier this morning i got my greencard interview. It went pretty well. At the end the IO said my greencard application has been approved. And i should get my card within 2 weeks. And she said she rarely gives instant approval to people. So i felt really good. But my online status still hasnt changed. And she didnt stamp my passport or anything. But i think its normal like that
P/s: i came here on a K1. Priority date: oct 26 2016.
