Hello, General question regarding sponsoring green card for my mother.
She currently has Visitor Visa (B2) valid till next year (Sept. 2025).
I am planning to apply for Consular processing but she doesn't speak English (we are from Andhra Pradesh) and reading the posts, it seems like the interview is only at Mumbai, please correct me if I am wrong.
I lost my dad few years back (6), but do have two sisters, both settled in India and have small properties, but none on my moms name though. They are still on my fathers name.
Would there be any problem (with rejection) of green card during interview because she has no assets on her name other than telling them about the binding with her two daughters?

Sputum test update:
Providing my updates for others with the same issues. Sputum test results came back negative. But my mom had to follow up with the hospital and Rele Clinic Mumbai to get the results sent to Consular ASAP. There was a small delay on their end.
As soon as Rele Clinic said the results have been uploaded, I went online to book appointments. Surprisingly, appointments were now easily available. I had been checking everyday for appointments while waiting for the results to arrive. A few days after, received the standard email to schedule appointment.

aquafatz Thank you for posting your experience. My father's sputum test results are expected to come from Rele Clinic by in a few days. So I will need to reschedule his visa interview after that. I logged into his portal today but currently the "schedule appointment" on the left side does not show up. Can you describe how and when that option started showing up for your Mom? Also did you wait to get an email from the US Consulate before trying to schedule an appointment? I am wondering if the "Schedule Appointment" is disabled until the medical test results come out clear?

While they currently have temp visitor insurance, I am looking for permanent medical insurance options for my parents. Anybody here has experience with Obamacare / other options? Any thoughts or pointers regarding income documents, overall process, etc. would be extremely helpful. Also, when we calculate my parents' income -- is it just their income, or the total income including that of their children who sponsored them?

if GC holder wants to visit only once a year for a month or two, is there any problem? The GC holders aren’t interested in becoming citizens soon.

if they do visit once a year for a month or two, will they ever be eligible to become citizen? Or they have to meet the 180 day conditions to be eligible for citizenship?

heartiest Congratulations for your parents getting to the documentary qualified stage. We call this as DQ. The call for interview could take anywhere between 3-6 months. Thanks. My interview got scheduled on 19th March and got the GC visa. I have seen many people came to interview after medical but without bio-metric and denied interview. So it’s important to finish medical and bio-metric before the consulate interview. There are many hyper links in the interview schedule letter. Pls open and read everything. In the interview they normally ask questions mainly to make sure the are issuing the visa to the right person (no impersonation). You have to be thorough with your DS 260 form details. Hope this helps

After a lot of back and forth with NVC over documents (one parent DQ'd, while other didn't, same documents!) finally got a DQ date of Feb end 2024.

In the interest of planning for travel, could you share when you received the letter informing of the 19th March interview date?

When I arrived here in November 2023, it was the start of new enrollment for health insurance from December for the period of January 2024 to December 2024. To enroll for health insurance, you can visit healthcare.gov. If your total income is less than $35000 (I'm not completely sure of the exact number), the government will support on your monthly premium. After enrollment, you will see various insurance providers and can choose a plan based on your needs and pay the premium or can get support from the government. However, this enrollment period closes in the first week of January. I suggest getting help from insurance agents for better guidance.

It is generally not a problem for Green Card holders to visit the US for a few months each year. However, if a Green Card holder is young, immigration officers may sometimes ask why they have stayed outside of the US for a longer period of time (though this is not always the case). Elderly Green Card holders are usually not questioned in this way. This is what I have heard from others.
If someone wishes to apply for US citizenship, they can apply after 5 years of getting a Green Card and have lived in the US for 2.5 years. More details can be found on the USCIS website.
