Social Security No
It's been allmost 2 months since I applied for my SSN so far I haven't received , During the course of time I have done some rearch and some of my findings are :

1)Since September 1, 2002, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has used a "total v erification" policy with respect to immigration documents. Social Security numbers will only be issued after completion of a document verification and status check, using the INS Systemic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program.

2) If SAVE Data does not show up the Applicants information .. SSA manually prepares a Form G-845, along with copies of the applicant's documents. This packet is forwarded to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for Verification.

2) At the Port of entry the I-94 information will not get updated directly to the computer, all the I-94 documents are sent to Central processing place for updation .So this will take couple of days for Information availability in SAVE database.

3) It was Suggested by some Immegration experts after entering the US SHOULD WAIT 15 DAYS BEFORE APPLYING FOR SSN, By that time SAVE database would have been updated with Relevant information, so SSA will not Initiate the Manual verification process.

4) It looks like Manuall verfication Might take any where between 4 to 12 weeks .

Hi

I am on an H 4 Visa and came to the US 4 months back.I have a Texas ID card and now have had to move to CT with my husband.

The problem is we were looking out for an apt and shortlisted one and when were finally going to move into it we were told my ssn would be required or else we wud have to pay a months fee as deposit(which may or maynot be paid back). now several indian families have moved in the same complex b4 us..the latest having moved 10 days back.

None of the wives had an ssn and this issue wasnt raised with any of them.

when my husband and I brought up this pt, we were told i could move in without paying the deposit but could not use any amenities in the apt complex...no access to gym fitness room pool etc.I could only do so if my husband accompanied me..

k..now we checked up with all othr indian families whoes wives are H-4 and no ssn. all the ladies have thr access cards et and face no such issue

so y in our case?this incident has been very disheartening.....we had to move out tomorrow...now we are stuck.

could anyone pl help?
