interview at Des Moines, Iowa
I did the interview at 8:50 AM on 01/17/18 and I passed it! As I have benefited a lot from this website, I would like to share with all of you my experience.

My timeline:
03/15/2017: received Form N-400
03/20/2017: scheduled for a fingerprint appointment
04/10/2017: started the interview scheduling process
12/05/2017: inforpass at 9:15 AM
12/05/2017: at 2:00 PM, received both a text message and an email telling me "Interview Was Scheduled"
01/17/2018: 8:50 AM

I studied the 100 questions for a couple of days by listening to the disk, reading the booklet, and watching videos on internet. I was very serious not because I think the questions can be hard but because I cannot afford a failure, thinking of a so long waiting time to get the interview. I got up in early morning, felt a bit nervous. On the way, a bit of traffic jam made me even more nervous, and got some trouble to find a parking space, but I arrived just a few minutes before the appointment.

At 9:10 an officer called my name. He looked friendly, but still serious and professional. He took my photo and collected my finger prints. I brought as many as possible documents (of about one pound), but he only asked for my green card. He started to go over my N400 and concluded that my application all looks good. Then we started the civic test.

Reading: Who lives in the White House?
Wring: The president lives in the White House.
Short answer questions:
(At this moment, I became quite nervous and used fingers to count how many I have answered correctly.)
What movement tried to end racial discrimination?
What did Martin Luther King, Jr. do?
Who is the Governor of your state now?
Who was the first President?
Name two national U.S. holidays.
Where is the Statue of Liberty?
He stopped when I correctly answered all these first six questions.

He concluded that he will recommend passing me, and he congratulated me. He told me that the Oath ceremony will be scheduled in several weeks. When I asked for the possibility of getting a sooner schedule for Oath ceremony, he became a bit impatient and I stopped. I shakes his hands to thank him and left his room.

Travel required 1 month after interview - what to do?
I received notification that my interview has been scheduled a month before a planned trip out of country. This is a surprise based on the timeline of previous peoples experiences and the website processing times of appcations.

My main question is do they take your green card at the interview so your ability to travel after the interview is taken away or is this at the oath ceremony?

Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

3/02/17 fp capture done
wait................
12/21 interview scheduled on 1/28/18
now Im working on the 100 questions and answers since its about 10days away from interview.
these are the basic info, it's long time of waiting to get here, but I have much more to go through.
My first issue is I have 3 arrests before, one in 2004, other two in 2007. these are 10 years away. non violent crime, not about drugs or anything like that. and i have my GC after all these case done.
second issue is I didnt make enough to file tax after 2010. Although my parents supported me. the reason is most of the employee aware the situation I had. So I have no idea how is the interview will ends, Although my lawyer said these are not going to effect the result too much. but Im still worry about the day. One of my friend has same issue with me, she had 1 arrest. but she have done the whole process back in 2015. only thing didnt went smooth on her was long waiting between her interview and Oath. took her half year to get the letter. god bless. I will get more update once i finish my interview

San Jose Office Time Line
mid Jan 2017 Filed application
mid Feb 2017 Finger Printed done

Then no news, and status remain Finger Printed was Scheduled until

Nov 2017 - status changed to Interview Scheduled and mail received.
Mid Nov 2017 Interview - everything fine expect long time waiting inside the office for interview, the staff there are nice, Civic questions are easy. I didn't bring 2 pictures, fortunately there's Costco across the street, went to take pictures and return to submit within the same day.
Dec 2017 Oath Ceremony letter received
mid 2018 Oath Ceremony completed and also Passport Application all together.
Oath Ceremony is easy, just need to be there at least 30 mins earlier as there's long line outside, and the place doesn't have enough seat for guest. They checked the letter and your green card. At the end they took you green card away. The ceremony last about an hour, will sing the National Anthem, did the pledge of allegiance. Some people explain about the Social Security, Passport Application, Register to Vote .... There's a video from President Donald Trump about the greetings (Disgusting to hear from him) At the end received the Citizenship Certificate and good to go. But if you want to apply the passport, need to submit the application together, they will send you back together with the new passport.
Before I applied the citizenship last year, heard that it took about 6 months. However, now you have to prepare to take about 1 year.
good luck to everyone. It could be the last posting I post here. Thanks for all other people shared the experience in that forum. it's very useful.
Thank you very much

Need advices please.
I am asking these questions for my friend. They got married to us citizen in end of 2014 , got her greencard in April 2015 then in July her and her husband went back to Thailand and stay there about 1 year. Then , they came back in July 2016 and after that they never take any trip outside USA at all.

1. Can she apply for citizenship in after July 2018 or she have to wait and apply after July 2019?

2. If she have to wait till July 2019, can she still apply under the condition of been married to us citizen and hold green card for atleat 3 years?

3. If the answer number is Yes. In the N400 form , they ask " have you been taken a trip outside United States in the last 5 years? What would answer should be? Yes or no ? Coz she does not want to confuse officer about trip outside USA in 2015 which is about 1 year that she been outside the country

Thank you so much
