Where are you going?
How long you will stay there?

In the end, she asked to provide passport copies of my wife, unfortunately i sent all other documents but didnt send passport copies.

Thoughts needed pls. US tourist Visa. Filipina
Hi immihelp. I felt really excited to see all the experiences here that got approved.

I would like to ask assistance from you guys. I, my son & my mom who is a widow and a senior citizen 66yo is going to apply for tourist visa this week and will have it sched for interview by the first week of october. I'd need your opinion if what we have are enough evidence or ties that we really are coming back after our trip to California.

So heres the story, the main applicant is my mother. I will acompany her since she is a senior & we will bring my little boy too so we could celebrate his bday there. We are planning to bisit the US before thanks giving. Good for a month then come back after new years. My mother is a widow since my father died last june 11,2015. Years back, she was granted a b1 US visa with my father. They were invited in a Business fair held in ohio. I believe that was way back 1991. My father was granted 10yr multiple visa and my mom was granted 1yr. They only stayed there for a month then came back. The next travel she had outside the philippines is in Hongkong last year, nov 2015. She was with me and my son.

The ties that she has here is a house & lot in a subd. Thats where we are living now. She also has a lot in one of our provinces. Also they recently sold our property that's also in our province. Partly of what she earned on that property eill be used for our trip to the u.s. My mother was a housewife ever since and now that my father is deceased, she is the own getting the pension every month. For me, I own a car, i am employed in a Insurance company thats based in australia. I work for them for 8mos already. I work as an underwriting officer. I earn aprx $400 a month. I have my COE as proof. And for my son he is currently a Kinder 2 student at a private school here.

Pls guys let me know your thoughts if we could possibly have our visa approved.

Your thoughts is greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

Visitor Visa - Chennai - Single traveler - status approved
Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share my experience of my visa appointment in Chennai US Consulate. I did an ample of research before going for my visa interview for a single woman, working professional and age group 25-30 yrs on a visitor visa. Believe me, it is no rocket science and not that tough at all. If you are well prepared for your type of Visa it is a very smooth process. It is a myth that single woman/man in this age group get visa with lot of difficulty or it is very hard to get that visa. Well here is my experience.

My VAC appointment was on 7th Sept and interview was on 8th. First and foremost, learn to be very patent as the queues in the visa office could be long and tiresome and can drain all the energy out of you. Under any circumstances, do not carry anything more than your documents and if possible, carry them in a transparent plastic folder. It is easy for you and also for the visa office security. The less you carry, the better it is.

Tip#1 for DS160 - It is ok if you have made a mistake in your form, you can create a new form or edit the existing one. Keep your DS160 handy the moment you create the form. The link for DS160 is as below -

https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

On 7th, it was the biometrics day and took about 30 minutes for the entire process. The actual biometrics take just 2 minutes tops. But, again the queue is long so be patient. Keep your appointment letter and DS-160 form ready all the times. These are the MOST IMPORTANT documents. Be sure that your DS-160 number matches to that in your appointment.

On 8th Sept, my appointment was scheduled at 9:30 AM, but these are just numbers on your appointment letter as you just need to show you have a real appointment scheduled. I reached the US Consulate office at 8:00 AM and I was astonished to see so many people standing in the queue already. I thought I was late but i wasn't and its always good to be on time for these appointments.

Tip - Dress in formals, it matters a lot. Again, do not carry anything with you apart from your important documents in your plastic transparent folder.

Tip#2 - If you are working, the documents you can carry - Your payslips for last 6 months, ITR for last three years to show your income flow, your official joining and relieving letters, your marksheets from school to college, if possible take the leave letter from your workplace signed by the HR. Take originals of all the documents. Place them separately and tag them so that it is easy for you to retrieve the documents quickly when asked for it.

After reaching the US consulate, there were three levels of security check and you cannot or rather should not avoid these security checks.

The last queue is to go through a window before you can actually reach the Visa officer, there they check for your visa and the sticky note on it saying you have an appointment, which is given to you after your biometrics. Once you are through this, you join the queue to meet the visa officer.

My personal experience with the Visa officer -

VO - Please step forward
Me - (I go forward close to the window and greet him)Good morning, how are you today?
VO - Very well, thank you. Please pass your passport.
Me - Sure (I hand over my passport)
VO - What is the purpose of your travel?
Me - For Toursim. (Yes that is all I said)
VO - Who do you know in United States?
Me - I have a friend, (friend's name) who lives in Boston.
VO - How do you know him.
Me - We were friends in India and now he is in Boston.
VO - Were you school or college friends?
Me -We met in college.
VO - What does your friend do in Boston?
Me - Answered accordingly.
VO - How long do you plan to visit for?
Me - 15 days.
VO - What do you do by profession?
Me - Answered
VO - Who is paying for your vists?
Me - I myself
Vo - How much do you earn yearly?
Me- Answered.
VO - Can you explain your job role to me?
ME - Answered.

He typed something for 30 seconds in his system and replied -

VO - Ma'am your visa is approved, you have a good day.
Me - Thank you and you have a good day too.
Vo - Thank you.

I left the window. He did not ask me where I am visiting and when I am visiting. Maybe, he didn't want to ask these questions that day.

Be courteous, truthful and polite and have a smile on your face. Be well prepared for your answers and have confidence. Do not give them a slightest hint that you are not a genuine candidate for Visa to US. It will work out well. All the best and let me know if this helps, or If I can answer any questions.

B2 Visa Approved for parents at Mumbai
Hi everyone. Immihelp has provided great help in preparing for the interviews. I would like to share my experience regarding B2 visa for my parents, which got approved at the Mumbai Embassy on 6th sept, 2016
To start with, I had scheduled their OFC appointments on 2nd Sept, 2016 at 11.00 am for getting the biometrics done. Reached an hour early. There were couple of queues for different appointment timings. They had their fingerprints and photo clicked inside, the process was smooth and they were out by around 11.30am. They put stickers on the back of the passports containing details of the Embassy interview.
I had scheduled their Consular Interview on 6th Sept, 2016 at 9.30am. Reached the embassy at around 8.15am. There was already a Queue outside for 9.00 am slot. By 8.45 am, the queue for 9.30 am slot was formed and they were inside the embassy by 9.00 am itself.
The language selected was Hindi since my parents were not used to the american accent. There was no translator, but the VO itself knew to speak hindi. The interview went as follows.

VO: Good Morning.
Parents: Good morning(Passports were handed over)
VO: Why do u want to go to the USA
Dad: For tourism purpose and to visit my Elder son
VO: How did your son go to the US?
Dad: He went there to do his further studies and is currently working there. Its been 10 years since he is in US.
VO: What do you do here?
Dad: I am working at YYYY as a ZZZ.
VO: (After Continuous typing since the start, the golden words)OK, sir, Your Visa is Approved.

Only 3 questions were asked, my mom was not asked any. No documents were asked And my parents were outside by 10am with a delight in their faces. For the note, this was their 2nd attempt in getting the visa. First attempt got rejected in 2011. To my pleasant surprise, I got a message in the evening itself that the passports were ready for pickup with the Visa stamp.
I hope I have been able to contribute something to this forum.

All the best to everyone

Visa approved, Nairobi Kenya
Hi all,
Thanks Immihelp community. I intend to visit the US with my son in December for two weeks during Christmas. I will stay with a friend of mine. I had initially filled the DS 160 for me and my son and had made a major blunder. Then I stumbled on Immihelp and I realized I was headed for a denial.
You see, I had earlier done my masters in the US and had a 2 year visa. My studies took more than two years. I thought that since the visa had expired while I was still in the US, I had overstayed. Until I read the explanation on Immihelp that as long as you had maintained status, you are ok.
So I appear at the embassy on the 29th of Aug, 2016 with my son (8 years old).
The guards took me to the front of the line since I had a child. This continued till the time for the real interview came. Then we had to wait our time.
We waited until our turn came.

My profile
47 years old
Divorced
PhD- ongoing in Kenya

Interview

ME: Good morning, how are you.
VO: Why do you want to go to the US
ME: I want to visit my friend and take my son to visit Disney

ME: No, I will visit FL
VO: So you will visit Disneyworld or Disneyland?
ME: I will visit the one in FL, which one is which? (I now turn interviewer)
VO: DW is in CA DL is in FL.
ME: I am going to DL then.
VO: So you went to school in the US? (My DS 160 had no option to fill my academic qualifications but they had them!!)
ME: Yes
VO: How long were you in the US?
ME: 4 and a half years.
VO: Why did it take too long to finish a masters?
ME: I did two majors and...
At that point the phone rang and she started saying something like we have another one..... check near the....
VO: Continuing.....so you were saying why did it take so long?
ME: I took two majors and a minor then I went into OPT.
VO: Where do you work?
ME: At.........., am an executive trainer.
VO Do you have a bank statement?
ME: Yes. (handing it over)
She peruses
VO: Do you also go to ......University?
ME: Yes, I am doing my PhD there and I also do parttime teaching.
VO: At the same school?
ME: Yes.
VO: Your visa is granted you will be notified when it reaches you chosen DHL.

That was it.
No other document was asked, I had carried a load of documents including pictures of my house and my two cars, documents for my plots, registration for my consultancy, pictures of my family and of my daughter when she visited DL at age 9, birth certificates, intent to depart the US all written down and hotel reservation.
BTW, even the consent from his dad to travel, boy was asked not a single question.
