Visitors Visa granted(for my parents) at Mumbai Consulate
All,

First and foremost i would like to thank the immihelp team in guiding me for all the procedure. I had my parents visa booked at Mumbai Consulate on 23rd Apirl 2008 and they were granted 10yrs multiple entry. Here is the summary. My parents had taken an appointment in "Marathi" but unfortunately there was no interpretor. I was awesome from the interview who told that if you know 'Hindi" we can both talk in "Hindi" so finally the interview was conducted in "Hindi". Good that the American knew Hindi

1. Entered the cabin.

Officer: How are you doing?
Dad: I'm doing fine.

Officer: So why you want to go to USA?
Dad: To visit my son & daughter-in law.

Officer: Where does your son stay and on which visa is he in USA?
Dad: He stays in Virginia and is currently on H1B.

Officer: Do you know the name of company and designation he works for?
Dad: Yes! <
Officer: What do you do in India?
Dad: I'm retired.

Officer: What is your income, if you are retired? Show me your property documents?
Dad: Showed him all his India property documents.

Officer to Mom

Officer: Who else stays with you in India. How many children do you have?
Mom: My daughter stays in Mumbai. She is married.

Officer: Will you come back to India?
Mom: Yes

Officer: Abhinandan! You visa is granted.

This is what all it was, my dad/mom are retired they knew english but just to be on safer side they took in native language and it was good that the Interviewer speaks Hindi. We were lucky.

Parents got Visitor Visa (Both children in USA)
I would like to share this experience with you, especially for those parents whose children are in USA and no people ties back in India.
My parents got multiple entry visitor visa on 21st April (Mumbai consulate).

Me and my brother are in USA since last 1.5 year. and because of that we had a fear of Visa rejection. However, we asked my parents to tell the complete truth and prepare strong paperwork. I suggest to prepare a summary of all the assets back in India to show strong ties.

Interview went pretty well (in Marathi). Only strange thing was that the officer called my Mother first. It went as below:
Mom: Namaste
VO: Good morning
VO: Where are you going?
Mom: USA
VO: How many children do you have?
Mom: 2
VO: Where are they?
Mom: One is in xxx and another in xxx state.
VO: If both the children are in USA, who is going to take care of your property in India?
Mom: My brother-in-law will take care during this period.
VO: Where is your husband?
Mom: He is waiting outside.
VO: Call him in.
Dad: Good Morning
VO: What do you do?
Dad: Retired.
VO: Your visa is granted. Pl. collect in the evening.

That's it!! VO didn't check a single document. My Mom gave the interview with full confidence and whole truth. We had prepared very well in terms of documentation and interview prep. I tool the mock interview of Mom & Dad couple times.

All the best for aspirees!

Visa Granted to In-Laws 2nd Attempt
First of all many thanks to immihelp for providing such a valuable and concise information .

Their 1st attempt iwas in jan .. language english and we thgt it shud not be difficult to get the visa coz their younger Son and parents are in india staying with them but they did not get much chance to put forward any points as VO asked them very few questions.

1) Why r u travelling
2) Who else in USA
3) Whats ur occupation
4) Service (Retired) , Pension etc
5) How much period .. u want to travel

I believe the last question was main decider .. as when my mother in law said 5 to 6 months ... the VO ended the interview and was'nt ready to listen further , inspite of repeated pleading that their Son , parents are all in india ...

2nd Attempt :
Last week, interpreter (local language)
1) Why r u travelling
2) Who else in USA and what Visa
3) Whats ur occupation
4) How much period .. u want to travel

My father in law said 3 months as my sons wedding is planned in December .. which is true .. Visa was Granted but during this time , my father in law made sure he gives the information like their Son and parents are staying with them , their sons marrriage is planned in December . he had taken all required proof like engagment cards , marriage hall details , standard affidavit(Indian Ties) just to prove to the officer if required .

All the best , i hope this information is helpfull ...

Sister's Visit Request Approved
My sister's visitor visa was approved last week.

Sincere thanks to
:a fair Visa process in this case,
:a clear interaction with and by a considerate Visa officer,
:helpful and kind replies by all 3 of you raising my view,
:along with helpful information available on 'immihelp' to get prepared for the appointment.

Not to mention also is the significance of openness and good faith.
______________

Below is approximate narration of her experience:

Crowd outside the consulate is somewhat more organized than in the past, when she used to accompany me for my stamping during last few times.

Security is thorough but rushing and aggressive on the applicants.

Sis (to the man at the counter1 issuing DS156 back to applicants): I have asked for appointment in my Mothertounge.
Man: Ok

Fingerprinting done.
Waiting at the chairs.
Surrounding is little new, but she is fairly composed

Other elderly people sitting next to her, "Beti, can you please let us know if our names are announced... AAA, BBB?"
Smiling, Ok..
.....
...Now her name/number is announced

(Start in English)
Sis: Good morning
Unfortunately VO unable to hear. But my Sis realizes it and is set to speak clearer. She is comfortable.
VO: Name ABD ? (pronounciation error)
Sis: No Sir, it's ABC.
VO: Don't you speak English ?
Sis: I can Sir, but I am not very comfortable with western accent.
VO seems to be considerate in offering time to understand the question, and in offering time for her to speak
(Now interview is in my Mothertounge)
VO:What do you do ?
Sis: I am YYYY ;
VO: how many years of experience do you have
Sis: YY years
VO: Have your parents travelled to US ?
Sis: No
VO: Do they have Visa?
Sis: Yes they do. However YYYY (Reason why ...they have not yet gone to visit)
VO: What does your Brother do ?
Sis: He works for a company AAA.

By tomorrow afternoon, you should have visa couriered to you.
Sis: Thank you (Greets the VO)
...

I go to India every year, and for the first time, my Sis'll be able to see where and how I stay and how the places around are...I am looking forward to my Sis's visit.

Got 10 Yr Multiple Entry for both parents
I work in the US on H1B (standard Indian IT profile). Parents are from Mumbai, both retired. I have a sister, but she was staying in India. We had prepared all documents as given on the list of documents on this website. My parents had notarized statements of personal wealth, etc.

During the interview, the visa officer asked standard questions:
1. To my Dad:
What do you do?
What did you do before retirement?
What does your son do?
Have you been to the US before?
2. To my Mom:
Have you been to the US before? (my Mom had)
What does your daughter do?
How long are you planning to stay (for a month)

That's it - finally the officer granted the visa saying 'enjoy your trip'.

The interview was in English, we did not have an interpreter. It lasted only 5 minutes, though we had prepared all sorts of questions from this website.

Immihelp is doing a great job of providing detailed information on visa/travel. Keep it up folks!!

Parents' Visitor Visa granted
Hi,

My Parents were granted visa, Thanks to the people who have posted their experiences. Very simple questions were by VO in their interview.

Both my parents attended the interview together they had requested for an interpreter. My sister is sponsoring them. All questions were asked only to my father.

Q1) Who stays in US ?
A) Our Daughter and Son-in-law
Q2) Who is sponsoring your stay?
A) Daughter
Q3) What does she do?
A) Working in AAA company as BBB.
Q4) When did she go to US?
A) In year YYYY , soon after her marriage
Q5) Who stays in India with you?
A) Son
Q6) What does he do?
A) Working in XYZ company and also mentioned full name of my company.
Q7) What do you do?
A) Working in CCC company as DDD.

Lastly VO said that I am granting you visa and you will receive your passport in few days.

My parents thanked VO & interpreter before leaving.

Based on what my parents have seen there, all they are looking for is a reason for the visitor to return to India. If they see a reason that visitor will return back, Visa will be granted without any problem.
