Consular
Processing
Chennai, India
Medical examination for immigrant visa at Chennai is done in two parts.
Medical examination in Chennai can be done at any of the below mentioned doctors but the
blood test and x-ray has to be done at Lister Laboratory.
Step 1: Lab Test/X-Ray Lister Laboratory is the Consulate's only approved center for conducting blood tests and taking x-rays. All applicants must have these procedures performed at Lister Laboratory. It is not necessary to schedule an appointment for these tests, but you should allow at least three working days before your scheduled Immigrant Visa appointment for the laboratory tests to be completed. Applicants who are examined at the laboratory between 8 AM and 10:30 AM may be able to receive their laboratory results the same day. Lister METROPOLIS Laboratory & Research Center Pvt. Ltd. No. 13 (Old No. 6) Jagannathan Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai - 600 034 Phone: +91-44-2822-2561, 2822-2562 Fax: +91-44-2852-8242 Hours: 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM, Monday - Saturday; Reports pickup daily 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM Even though the consulate letter states they open at 8:00 AM, people start lining up there starting at about 6:00 AM. So, if you go there at 7:00 AM, don't be surprised if you see at least half a dozen people waiting there already. They start giving out tokens at about 7:15 AM. They open doors at 7:30 AM and shortly afterwards start calling out token numbers. They are very efficient and similar to a production line. They call by token numbers. Have the Medical Form(Fillable) filled out in advance with your name, address (US or Local address it does not matter), passport number, date & place of birth, signature and date of initial lab exam. Also paste the passport photo on the form this saves time. The laboratory physician will include that sheet in the results given to you to bring to the doctor's clinic. Once they receive the form & passport they will check the contents & ask you to pay the fees (Rs. 600 for initial laboratory tests (fees up to Rs. 3300 if additional tests are needed) then ask you to be seated and call you by name to draw blood. Then go back and sit and the X-ray person will call you by name. You will be asked to remove your shirt, you can leave your vest on and he will take X-ray photos. He then gives you a receipt asking you to come back after 4:30 PM to collect the report. (You can request for your report to be given by midday if you have an urgency). The process takes just 5-10 minutes in the morning. Waiting times are dependent on the number of people arriving for the tests. Usually it should be around 45 minutes. After 4:30 PM, just show the slip and they will give you a large envelope (X-ray is enclosed). It will have a sealed envelop with a sticker that says “To be opened by examining physician Only” Step 2: Physician Examination You are also required to visit one of the Consulate's approved panel physicians for a physical examination after laboratory tests have been completed. The following physicians have been approved by the American Consulate General in Chennai to give medical examinations, immunizations and laboratory tests for Immigrant Visa applicants. Make your own arrangements for examination by any physician on the list at least two business days before your immigrant visa appointment. Please telephone the doctors during working hours and make an appointment at the clinic with any of the doctors listed below. Bring the completed laboratory test results with you. In addition, for each family member, bring a passport, one photograph, all medical records of vaccinations, prior illnesses or treatments. You must discuss your medical history and current conditions - pregnancy, diabetes, hypertension and other conditions and medications taken - with the physician. The completed medical reports, which will be given to you by the physician, must be brought to the consular section of the Consulate General by the time of your visa interview.
