Adjustment of Status - I-485

Hi all, here’s my interview experience yesterday for I-485 AOS marriage to USC! Hope this helps!

RFE birth certificate: 02/2020
Ready for interview: 04/2020
Interview date: 01/11/2021
Green card: approved same day!!! 01/11/2021
PS. We did everything ourselves, no lawyer

Documents I brought to interview: pretty much just everything listed in the interview notice. New items I brought to interview that aren’t in the original package are: 2019 tax return which we filed together for the first time, new joint bank accounts statements, new photos. Also brought original birth certificate from the USC. My original birth certificate is still at my home country (the officer did ask for it but I told him it’s too fragile to ship and he seemed okay with it). Also photocopies of our new driver licenses with the same address.

Before interview: we arrived 15 mins before appointment. They won’t let you into the building earlier than that. We ended up waiting for almost 1.5 hour from the scheduled time before we were called. We were the last to be called from our time slot. Some people were called pretty quickly. So it seemed like it really depends if the officer assigned to your case is behind. Also we dressed up (business casual).

Interview process: the officer was very cordial. He asked for IDs first and I gave him our passports and Illinois drivers license. Swore us in and took my biometrics. He asked my husband when we got married, how we met and why we decided to get married. My husband, being the chatty box he is, told some pretty amazing stories of the beginning of our relationship. The officer probably didn’t want to hear more sickly sweet stuff and moved on to other questions before my husband got to the wedding details. He wrote down some dates my husband mentioned. He also asked him if we took any trips, and we pointed him to the photos we submitted along with the original package of our numerous international trips together. Also asked why we are not on the same health insurance plan, which my husband explained that it’s cheaper for us to be separate. The officer was mostly struggling to find things to ask us since we already submitted a lot of co-habitation evidence together such as taxes, bank accounts, license, etc. Then he moved on to me, asked me what I do, before asking the checklist questions (are you a terrorist?). Overall he didn’t ask me that many questions. Also funny that he asked me how old I am because he really had no idea lollll and he jotted down my age to help himself remember.

Overall: interview was only 20 min long. He didn’t ask a whole lot of questions. We were organized and prepared. The officer was pretty disorganized and he probably didn’t look at our case before interview, since he generally had no idea what we submitted. But despite that, we pointed him to the correct info already in his file and I gave him photocopies of anything he couldn’t find right away since I brought copies of everything with me. He told me we will hear a decision in a few weeks (lol), but status update changed around midnight to "card being produced".

Tips:
- Bring original birth certificates and marriage certificates with you if possible. Officer will check.
- Bring photocopies of supporting evidence, both new and old. If you run in to a disorganized officer like ours, you can just whip out a copy for the officer when they can't find it in their folder. My officer really appreciated it.
- Memorize important dates in your relationship.
- You can submit photos printed on printer papers. Provide dates, location, and quick description of the photos. Our officer liked it a lot.
- Relax. Don't interrupt when questions are not directed at you, but you can be interactive in a relaxed manner. My husband was chatty and hyping me about how organized I was. I think a natural interaction helps show the bona fide marriage.

I am curios to know Jacksonville FL filers PDs and current statuses to have a single post to gather all the information on FO current state.

My PD is Jan 2020 and ready for interview since March.

Hi All,
My case status for i485 changed to " Case ready to be scheduled for an interview " yesterday i.e 1/11/2021 but I-765 still shows "Case was updated to show fingerprints were taken ". is it normal?

My timeline:-
06/30/2020 - i485 , i765,i130,i131 sent to USCIS (MSC)
07/17/2020 - Fingerprint fee accepted
01/05/2021 - Biometrics was done
01/11/2021 - Case was updated to shows " ready to be scheduled for an interview " for i485.

Hi all, wish you good luck .I want to ask that any one on this forum who filled i 485 in october 2019 in National benfit service center??
Any one got green card after waving interview or interview schaduled in long island field office ??

my friend filled i 485 in oct 2019. Got RFE in may .responded back in june and uacia uodated on website. But after that we dint get any decision.
Its 223 days after RFE but not get decision

I dnt know whats going on
Service request they said your case os with in processing time .so in very stress .feeling helpless

I tested positive for Covid just a couple of days before my I-485 Interview
so I had my attorney call to reschedule and she also sent a letter. The day the interview was scheduled the case status updated to ",Case Closed" failed to appear for interview. My attorney said she will contact USCIS and we have to wait

Has this happened to anybody before?

Interview was canceled due to covid19 .It was 4/23/2020.
I'm so exciting 😁. Finally my turn.

December 4, 2020 Card Was Delivered To Me By The Post Office

December 4, 2020 USCIS mailed new card of Form I-485, directly to me.

December 3, 2020 Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status was approved.

December 1, 2020 My interview for Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, was completed.

October 19, 2020 USCIS scheduled an interview for my Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.

December 30, 2019 My Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, became ready for an interview.

November 29, 2019 The fingerprints relating to my Form I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, were taken at USCIS field office.

November 19, 2019 USCIS denied my request for expedite processing.

November 4, 2019 USCIS National Benefits Center accepted the fingerprint fee for my Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.

October 11, 2019 USCIS received my Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status package sent by FedEx mail.

Hi guys! I have a question, for those who got their GC last year 2020 and also their SSN. I got my GC Jan, 2020. Do we guys qualify for the IRS check? Because I don’t receive any since the first one. I also just started my work 2 months (March) after I got my GC. Thanks

Our journey is finally over. Married to LPR.

Here it's the timeline:

April 2018 - i130 submitted
August 2019 - i-130 - Approved
June 2019 - i-485 & EAD submitted
January 2020 - EAD approved
Feb 2020 - Interview scheduled in April 2020 but cancelled due to Covid
September 2020 - EAD renewal sent. Card received in November 2020
September 2020 - Interview re-scheduled
RFE received 2 weeks after the interview
October 2020 - RFE submitted. Status never updated. it was still showing "interview completed case must be reviewed"
January 5th,2021 - New Card is being produced and received in hand on January 11th.
January 9th, 2021 - i485 Approval letter received

I wish everyone patience and peace of mind. It's been such a long journey but we are thankful that's finally over.
