Hi,
Thanks Immihelp and to all the individuals who shared their experiences here. It helped me a lot for preparing for my visa interview.
A little flash back: I had applied for b1 visa in 2009 and denied under section 214(b). I was under the assumption that it is more or less a document verification process than an interview. But I WAS WRONG and I realized that VOs rely more on our statements at interview to determine whether we are eligible or not. For that they may/may not ask documents.
Now I got an opportunity and I reapplied for the VISA. My appointment dates were
7-Aug-2013 ,12:00 PM -> OFC Appointment.
8-Aug-2013,8:30 AM -> Visa Interview.
1st day- OFC Appointment
I started from my hotel at 11:15 AM. I took my passport, appointment letter and DS-160 confirmation page. I was wearing formals. I was aware that OFC center is 4 km far from my hotel so I thought of going by auto and it will take maximum 15 mins to reach there. When I stepped out from my hotel one auto guy approached me and asked “US OFC Center?” I really astonished, how come he knows that I am going to OFC???. I said “Yes” .Next qn: “When is the appointment time?” , me :“12:00”. He:”Ok..I will take you to there and I can wait till you finished and will drop back to hotel , just give me YYYY rupees”. Oh my god..I told him that I can’t give that much amount and can give max “ZZZ” rupees. He agreed and while travelling he told me “If no rush, it will get over by 10 mins and tomorrow when is the appointment time???”. Me: “8:30 AM”. He:”Ok It is better to start by 7:45 AM and there it will take more time for the interview.” by that time we reached OFC center at 11:30 AM. There were no rush , I approached security and they checked my appointment letter and passport and verified the details and allowed me to enter in to the building. When I entered the office they did security check and again shown my appointment letter and DS-160 confirmation and allowed me to enter a hall. This is the place where they will be taking our 10 fingers impression and take our photo. That’s it. By 11:45 am I was out and the auto guy was standing there. While coming back he told me that he will be there tomorrow at 7:45 AM in front of my hotel.
2nd day- VISA interview
I woke up at 5:30 AM and got ready by 6:30AM. Had breakfast. Took all the documents. I was carrying all the documents in a transparent folder. And I was wearing formal dress with company tag around my neck. And came out from my hotel at 7:45 AM. My auto guy was standing there :-). While travelling he told me that here it will take more than two hrs to finish the interview..Reached the consulate by 7:55 AM. There were two separate long queues. One for 8:30 and another for 9:00. I joind the 8:30 queue. By 8:45 AM I was in and they stick token number on my pass port while entering. Again security checks and verified the thumb impression. And told me to wait. All these time I was practicing my answers in my mind. By 9:20 they allowed me to go to another building. This is the place where the actual interview is going on. While entering in to the hall you can hear VOs asking the questions. I was very nervous and tensed and I decided not to listen them, I was looking in to the TV screen for my token number. Finally my token number displayed and went to the respective counter. My VO was a young American guy who looks very jolly and friendly. In front of me there were two applicants. For both he approved the VISA. Now it’s my turn. He called me to come forward.
Me: Hi, Good morning Sir.
VO: Hey..Good morning. Can I have your passport please?
Me: Yes Sir (I Passed my passport).
VO: Ok, for what purpose you are going?
Me: Sir, we have been developing various software applications to our client YYYY .inc. Recently we have been offered a new project called ZZZ. And I was selected by my management to visit YYYY office in US for requirement gathering.
VO: Oh..for requirement gathering. How long you are going to be there?
ME: 4 weeks.(I thought next question will be regarding the duration but..)
VO: Whom and all you are going to meet there?
ME: I am going to meet Mr.ZZZ who is the head of research and development.
VO: Only one person you are going to meet for the entire requirement?
Me: No Sir, since this project has three sub applications I am going to meet respective managers also. But Mr .ZZZ is the coordinator for this process.
VO: Where the development is going to happen?
Me: In India
VO: When you are going to start the development?
Me: October 1st week.
VO: How long will it take to complete it?
Me: It will take 1 year.
VO: Ok.. Your VISA is approved.
Me: Thank You, Sir.
He didn't ask any other documents other than passport. That’s It and I was out from the consulate by 10:30 AM.
That’s my experience.
