B1 VISA APPROVED AT CHENNAI
Hello Immihelp,

First of all thanks to all the immense experiences posted here which helped me prepare for my B1 VISA to the USA.
I am a 21 year old third year engineering student from Bangalore and was attending a conference in NY. I had my VISA interview on 19th Feb 2013.

The Interview was very short as is under:

VO: Good Morning Sir, Please come to the counter
Me: Good Morning, How are you doing?

VO: Please give me your passport.
Me: Handed it over. Do you need anything else?
VO: That's it for now. Let's find you on the system.

VO:So you're going to New York?
Me: Yes Officer

VO: Why?
Me: To attend xxx summit as I have been awarded a fellowship.

VO: How long will you be in the US
Me. 5 days (as per DS160)

VO: Who will be paying for the trip
Me: My father

(Types for 5 seconds)

VO: You are good to go young man. Enjoy your trip to the Big Apple.
Me: Pheww!

He seemed very enthusiastic to hear my replies and before me he refused one H1B Visa applicant as well.
Not a single document was verified. I am posting this as my thanks to all the people who posted and helped me be confident for the interview

B1/B2 visa interview at US Consulate, BKC, Mumbai on 01/02/2013
First of all, thanks to Immi help and all the people who shared their experiences...It really helped me!

So here goes mine...

Overall, the experience was good today...especially when the V.O. said " Your visa has been approved!"

I had my biometrics done on 28th Jan 2013.
Interview: 7.45 am on 01/02/2013
First, there was a general security check, where your wallet, watch and the file of documents go under the scanner.
I thought the next step would be the interview...but NO, it wasn't!
They led us to an open area, where we had to sit and were requested to keep our current passport out(they hardly even glanced at my appointment letter.)
Later, I entered a big hall, where a token number was given.
Fingerprinting was done again.
I had to wait till the T.V. flashed my token number, along with the Window number (where my interview would take place). There were around 100 interviews to be conducted before me!

Finally at 9.15am, flashed my number and it directed me to Window no.29:
Me: Good Morning Ma'am!
V.O: Good morning...may I have your passport?

She then verified it with the details on her computer.

V.O: Company name?
 Me: YYYY co.
V.O: Designation?
 Me: Marketing Manager
V.O: Purpose of visit?
Me: Exhibiting at YYYY show on behalf of my company
(She asked me the name of the show again...I guess, to verify)
V.O: How long will you stay?
 Me: around 3 weeks
V.O: (Surprised look) Why so long?
Me: (gave her all the reasons)
V.O: Salary p.a in rupees?
 Me: Rs. YYYY p.a
V.O: How long have you been in this company?
 Me: Since May 2012
V.O: Are all these tourist visas? (pointing at my other visas)
 Me: Yes
V.O: OK...Your visa has been approved...you can collect it in 3-5 business days!
 Me: Thank You!!!

Tips:
(1) Just be calm and confident...More than documents...it's 'YOU' whom they are interested in!
(Except for my passport...she didn't ask anything else!)
(2) Try to hide your nervousness...if you look vulnerable, they may reject you.
(3) The earlier you reach, the better...people came one hour before their scheduled time.

Best of Luck!!!

Visa Refused Twice in 2 weeks
I have had 2 Visa refusals in last 2 weeks. Latest was today. First time around I was only asked 3 questions and my Visa was refused. Today I was asked lot more questions, but the result didn't change.

Learnings:
1. Never immediately reapply for Visa after refusal. Ideally, wait for at least 6 months before reapplying. Rarely the decision is reversed if you reapply soon after the refusal

2.Keep your answers crisp and concise.

3.Ensure that you carry all relevant supporting documents

Some pointers for refusal category.
1. Below 30 years of age
2.Unmarried
3.Less than a year with current company
4.CTC less than 6 lacs
5.Never traveled abroad before
6.Employer not a known brand name
7.Designation (People working at entry level positions will definitely find it tough)

I know some people may not agree, but luck matters the most in getting US Visa.

So here's wishing best of luck to all future applicants!

B1/B2 Visa approved
B1/B2 interview experience @ Anna Salai, Chennai -- 2nd week of Dec 2012

Things I carried to Consulate:
Passport (took my old passport also), DS 160 conf, Fee receipt, docs -- all in a transparent file.
Normal file is allowed though, better to take a transparent file.
Hotel key, currencies -- didn't take wallet, mobile.

Interview was at 8.00 am, reached there @ 7.45 am as i knew the place well and
the hotel where i stayed was near by - walking distance to the Consulate.
15 mins prior to interview schedule is good enough if your are staying near by and know the place well.

@US Consulate:
--------------
Outside queue and security check - 20 mins.
Inside first hall - passport check and finger print - 30 mins
Interview hall - waited for 15 mins.

In the interview hall, i was able to hear the questions as one of the VO was speaking loudly.
When my token was displayed, went to the counter.

VO was a woman.
Before me, there was h1/h4 interview - it was approved.
Next mine, gave the passport to VO

Questions:
----------
1. Which place you are visiting in US?
--City/County, State.(I'm Visiting Bay Area, CA)
2. For what purpose?
--Mentioned briefly. Say whats mentioned in your invite letter.
3. Which company you are working?
4. What does your company do?
--Answered in a line.
5. Are you visiting your parent company in US?
--Yes.
6. For how long you will be there in US?
--2 weeks. Say whats mentioned in your invite letter.
7. Is this the first time your applying visa to US?
--Yes
8. What is your experience in this company?
--X years, Y months. I had 3+ years exp - a plus point
9 What is your salary pa?
10. Will you be doing productive work in US?
--No.
11. Can I see your invite letter?
--She saw the some thing (purpose and duration of stay, i guess)
and returned back the invite letter.

And the Great words:
Your visa is approved ...

The interview was over in a minutes time.

Tips:
1. Be cool and keep answers short.
2. Don't worry about your minus points, they may never be asked at all, be well prepared though.
My brother is in US, I was single, these questions were not asked.
3. Wish the VO, say thank you when the interview is done, no matter
whether your visa is approved or denied or put on hold - be calm always.
4. Pray to god and believe in yourself.

Asked for passport delivery form at the help desk in the Interview hall
and submitted my office address. Other wise you will have to go to VFS pick-up point
to collect your passport.

Got the passport delivered to my hometown - Bangalore in 3 days.

Have a Good Luck!

Be Cool and You will get it !!
Hey My Back ground : 8+ yrs in software and travelled two other countries and have BEP.

I went to chennai, Teynampet for OFC.
Day-1 , Time 8.15, Appt Time: 8.30 AM Small Queue
I was 3rd in the queue out side OFC. A person checks his sheet with your interview letter.
Go inside to the Ofiice hand over documents. They will do some check and Then move to one other room where they will again check and will take your foto. All happens in 15 minutes, You are out...

Day 2 - 8.30 interview at Annasalai Consulate Chennai
Same way a person comes and checks your name in the intvw letter. Goes into another queue, Then another person puts a seal in to your ds form. Then does a security check. Goes inside the consulate again a security check. After that you were asked to go into q to take your token. You can watch ur token number in the TV kept there. Once you saw it in the TV go to that particlular Q and they will arrange the documents for the real intvw. Go to next building. Watch the TV , same token number displays then move to the right Q for the intvw. You can see and hear what the officer asking to other ppl.
Normal Q's discussed here is more than enough to prepare. I felt like i am booking a railway ticket as simple as...

Good Luck...

B1(BEP) interview experience new delhi
OFC/interview was on 3rd week of Dec:
Everything went on smoothly and timely till the interview. The VO was very friendly and smiling with all the other candidates infront of me (4 of them). When my turn came, he was again smiling and as soon he saw my name (common Muslim name), his face turned to seroius and he didnt even look at my face (forget about smiling). He just asked me following questions:
1) Why are you going ?
2) You work for YYYY ? (One of the best companies in US).
3) How long you are working for this company ?
4) how long is your travel?
5) you are going to meet your peers ?
6) Please go to counter 30, my collegue is there who will help you with the rest of the procedure. Returned my passport and he didnt even look at any one of my documents.
7) @ counter 30: Indian gentleman took my passport/BEP letter and told me it is done, it might take some time to process your visa you may leave now. I again asked what is the worst case I can get my passport, he said there is nothing like worst case and he cant commit any date.

I just came out and paid 300Rs for Passport delivery.

My question is: I havnt got any slip (pink/yellow/Green) from VO to understand what is the status or if it is under admin processing. If no slip is given, what we should be doing ? Can some one comment ?
