B1 Visa Interview at Chennai US Consulate
Hey all,

This forum has helped me a lot in preparing for the Visa Interview. So I thought I would share my experience here.

My OFC was on 30th Dec. The slot allotted was for 1.30 PM. I went there by 1 PM and stood in the queue. I was able to get in by 1.45. They have asked us to drop all the bags, Mobiles, and wallets outside. They cross checked the details in DS-160 with the ones in Passport allowed us in to another room. After the security check, they have asked us to go to a hall where you can a few counters. Your number will be displayed on the board and you need to go to the respective counter. You will be asked to scan your fingers at the counter in the machine and they will also take a photo. During my turn, there was a system error and so they asked me to come with a photo for the main interview. I was able to come out in a few mins.

On 31st Dec 2014, I went to the Annasalai consulate for interview. My slot was for 11.30. There was a big queue and I had to stand in the queue for almost an hour to get inside. The good news is that they have a locker by the side of the road where you can keep your belongings. We went inside and then we submitted our photos at one counter. They again took our fingerprints in the next counter. And then I waited for my turn for the Interview. The Interviewer was a nice man. I also have to say that my company is under the BEP program

Me: Good afternoon
VO; Hey, very good after noon.

VO: Are you from YYYY company?
ME: Yes.

VO: Why are you going to US
Me: Business Meeting

VO: How long you are gonna stay there?
Me: 1 Week

VO: What is your tenure with the company?
Me: 5 Years 2 Months

VO: Thank you! Your Visa is approved. You will get your passport in 2 days.
Me: Thank you Sir! Happy New Year.
VO: Happy New Year man (With a smile)

Thanks!

OFC experience: Chennai on 15-Dec-2014

Consulate Interview: Chennai on 22-Dec-2014
My interview was scheduled for 08:30 am and reached there by 7.50.
The queue was huge and i had to wait for 90 mins. You will not be allowed with electronic keychain, hand it over to the deposit counter before you pass through the first security check else you will miss out the queue. Also make sure you do not park you vehicle in NO PARKING area you will end up paying fine.
Avoid mobile and electronics, then it will be hassle free.
     Wrist watch has no issues.
After body scan, document scan, and finger verification, a tocken sticker will be on back side of the passport.

When my token is on the screen, just moved to the counter and joined the queue there.

The VO was friendly, young and humanistic in appearence.

me : Good morning
vo : good morning. Passport please.

vo : what is the purpose of visit.
me : I am going for a technical discussion and review of my current project with my cient xxxx.

vo : what is your project?
me : my project is for acquiring images from the scanner.[close looked at his eyes. That was enough for him]

VO : which is your company?
me : hhh ltd.

VO : what's your salary.
me : x lakhs per annum [as he didn't specify monthly or annually]

VO : do you have an invitation letter?
me : yes. [I gave the same. He had a quick glance through]

After making his keyboard busy for a while, he said "hei, its approved"
I said "Thank you sir". He nodded his head and smiled in reply.

Go in good dress even though they are not going to look at it anyway, with tried minimum tension and nervousness.
Security and all are not much as I read and all are our local security people.
We can see an American only at the time of interview, inside the glass.
Their voice is clear and understandable with less strain and without noise.

Why this much stress for a fifth standard exam yaar, see you are already a graduate.
Next is your turn and surely you will get it.

B1 Visa on Friday, 19-Dec-2014
Hi

My OFC was on 18-Dec-2014 and interview was on 19-Dec-2014 , for B1 in Chennai.

OFC experience:
It was simple and straight through.
My time slot was 1.30 pm, but reached there by 11.50 and completed it by 12.10.
So if the morning crowd is over, its simple.

Attention:
DS-160 should be letter by letter matching with the passport.

I had an issue with place of birth.
I have to submit new application form and take the print out of new DS-160 confirmation.
That's it, nothing to do more. Don't worry about different barcodes in appointment confirmation and DS 160 confirm.
At OFC, give the correct DS-160 confirmation, and the rest is automatic.

Consulate Interview:
It was scheduled for 10 am and reached there by 8.50.
The queue formed by 9.10 am and I finished everything by 10 am itself.

B1 Visa Approved @ Chennai After 2 times of rejection
I am having 9+ Years experience in software development. First time I applied for B1 in 2008 then L1 in 2011 but unfortunately got rejected both times. After that I applied recently in Dec-14 from different company and finally got approved. I will share my recent experience to help others.

Dt: 7-Dec-14, 3 PM, Sunday.
Dt : 8-Dec-14, 8.30, Monday

I reached by 8,00 and was long Queue out of Visa office. After standing for an hour and half I entered by 9.30 AM. After security check, I entered into another room where again passport is scanned and finger prints verified. My token no. announced and stood in Queue of window No. 23. My turn came after 5 mins.

Me : Good Morning with giving passport to VO through glass window small passage in bottom.
VO; Good Morning Sir.

VO: Why your are going ?
Me : Said Biz trip and Tech discussion.

VO : To whom your going to Meet.
Me : Engineering Team in US Office

VO: What are you going to discuss ?
Me : Said in 2 lines.

VO : Magical Words, Visa Approved.
Me: Thank You.

As you see there was nothing much asked. I felt like they already have a decision with them. They just verify it by asking questions.

Some Tips :
1. Be Confident. Feel your self like you are going to book railway ticket and you need to answer predefined questions only.
2. Prepare for two lines of answer for most common questions. Look FAQ and Previous 3-4 pages of questions in forum and practice with some friend / relative or in front of mirror.
3. Take proper break fast and take small water bottle with you. Get some nuts with you. Whole process takes 2-3 hours. Bottle not allowed once you pass security so give to security outside.
4. Dress well. Formal attire. Tie and/or suit not required.

Best of luck to every one who is appearing for interview.
