Thank you for confirming expiry date as I had interpreted. In this forum earlier, someone suggested to go for medicals as soon as you receive IL. Also as many receive IL about 2 months prior to interview date, as I had, someone suggested by doing so, you may be able to stick to your interview date in case of Sputum Test. But your interview appointment automatically gets cancelled in case of Sputum Test requirement. Hence those who are in the line to get IR5 visa, please remember your travel window to USA is 6 months from Medicals and 3 months from the result of Sputum test, as the case may be, irrespective of interview date or 221(G) issue.
Thanks AS45 and Shanaya for providing this info to forum members.

My wife have interview on March 2nd and I may get mine in April as my DQ is Aug 19th. My wife finished her Medical & Biometrics on Feb 2nd and waiting for Interview.

My query is - We plan to travel together to US in July, staying in US between Visa expiry date and GC receival - do we lose our legal status?

My mother is applying for PCC from local PSK. In the application form, there is a question about "Purpose for which PCC is required". Out of the given options, two seem relevant: "Immigration purposes other than citizenship" and "residence permit".

Does it matter which one we choose ? We are going to probably choose the second option, but if anyone did otherwise, feel free to advise.
I selected option “Immigration purposes other than citizenship"

      • Hi Everyone

Can anyone share their experience with buying the health insurance on Covered CA? My dad has pension & interest income that I can show. Can he buy insurance by just showing his income? The term Household Income is confusing me.

        Thanks

          Dear satya_gc,

Visa expiry date mentioned in the visa is for entry to USA by that date. On arrival, passport will be stamped and endorsed known as I-551 making the entrant as temporary Legal Permanent Resident having validity of one year. This stamp can even be used as a green card till you receive actual green card which normally takes 40 to 90 days. The green card is valid for ten years. Hope this clarifies your concern.Best wishes.

            Hi Rahul57,

Thank You for the guidance. Is it reasonable to expect PCC to arrive in mail within a month after PSK appointment?

                Dear Aviask,
you must choose the first option immigration etc. The second option may pertain to other countries. Best wishes.

                  Dear zakasbanda,
I used mine and my wife’s pension and interest income to fill up the form. He must buy insurance by showing only his income, not yours. Best wishes.

For PCC - you need to select "Immigration purposes other than citizenship"

Yes it is reasonable to make that assumption. Usually someone from the local police station will come to verify things.

We had opted 'Residence Permit' while applying for PCC. On hindsight, I feel ' immigration...' fits better. But those who have obtained or applied for PCC with 'Residence Permit' option need not worry as we had no issue with NVC or at interview.
