My Experience in Chennai Consulate for H1B VISA
Firstly I thank Immi Help and the members for sharing their experiences which helped a lot in facing the Interview without getting tensed.
OFC Appointment ( Bio-Metric) : My OFC Appointment was scheduled on 15-Dec-2013 at 15:30pm at Chennai. Since i took an appointment along with my Family, i reached their 15mins a head and checked with Security if i could proceed inside as i heard of priority being given for families with Kids. I was allowed to move into the OFC accordingly after checking the appointment letter.
Remember that if you are attending along with your Kids, please check with the security or the concerned person attending the applicants a head of the queue. They will not come to you personally and check if you have kids and allow inside.
Coming back to point, i had issues with my Appointment letter missing my Full Name and my wife had two DS-160 forms as we had to amend some details.
Trust me, there wouldn't be any issue if your DS-160 form receipt and Passport Name matches.
We further completed the formalities of getting the bio-metric done and were back in 15mins.
Appointment at Consulate:
I had my appointment at the consulate at 8:30Am and have reached just on time to avoid standing in the queue as advised in the earlier posts. Again i checked with the security if i could get the priority to get in as i had my kid along with me. They just copied the bar code on the passport which was pasted during bio-metric and allowed us inside for security check.
Security Check : This was the horrible thing in the whole interview process. Security guard just removed all the documents which i have kept in order and re-shuffled them after scanning. I was in a dilemna since my folder had the documents pertaining to my wife and kid too and they were all shuffled, Felt very about that and requested the security guard to give me time to arrange for the docs as he was trying to push us inside.
At last i moved the next counter in the consulate where they re-take the finger prints and all went well. Meanwhile my token number was announced for interview. I reached the counter and greeted the officer, handed over the passports as requested and then went our conversation:
- Who is your Employer
- Where are you Travelling
- Who is your Client?
- Are you travelling to US for the First time?
- What is your Salary
- Could you please re-spell the client name
Then to my Wife:
- Are you going top work in United States ?
Then he updated something on his system and handed over the US Rights Pamphlet and told that the VISA was approved.

Will F1 rejection Impact on H1B
Hi guys ,
I need everyone valuble suggestions ,
MY Husband applied for an H1B and planning to go for Visa soon.However his F1 got rejected 3 years back ?will it impacdt the H1B ?
I am going as a H4 along with him and my B1/B2 also rejected 3 years back ?
SO does it impact the stamping ... however we have all the supporting Documents to prove

Hi All,
I have one question , actually I have to go for OFC and H1B visa interview next week in Delhi. And I can see lots of news about Diplomat row: between India and US. The Delhi police removed barricades outside the sprawling US embassy in the capital and angry India takes reciprocal steps.
Just wandering if these steps is going to effect my OFC and visa interview next week . Looking forward to get appropriate answers .

H1B interview at Hyderabad
I am planning to go for the H1B interview at Hyderabad embassy in Jan'2014. As per the Hyderabad US embassy website we need to submit the docs 3 days prior to the interview. Is it mandatory to provide the docs three days before. OR we can directly book the slots OFC and next day interview. Appreciate your quick response

H1B Visa Stamping - Mumbai (First Time)

This is my first ever contribution of any kind to any forum. It's part of my new year resolution to help and not be a leech :)
As a quick note, when flying back to India to stamp your H1B visa, please avoid traveling via London. Heard a couple of people were not allowed to board the flight since London requires a valid visa stamp even if it's only changing flights in the airport. I flew Turkish via Istanbul and didn't face any problem except a few annoying kids.
Fingerprinting - This is an extremely straightforward and quick process. The only documents you need to carry are your passport, DS 160, Appointment confirmation and Axis Bank Fee Receipt(optional). Cellphones aren't allowed so don't carry them. They claim to have a lounge where you can check in your stuff but that's at your own risk.
H1B visa interview - The most important documents that they will definitely ask you for are the I797 receipt, passport and the documents carried for fingerprinting. No cellphones!
Questions -
1) What's your position?
2) Describe in detail?
3) Where and what did you study?
4) Which state in the US?
Visa Approved! It took about a minute for the whole thing. My 2 cents - Be confident and don't get affected by people getting rejected around you.
Expecting to receive passport with stamped visa in a couple of days and can be picked up at Trade center.
As for the dress code, I wore jeans but saw a lot of people in formals. No one really cares though as long as you look presentable.

H-1B stamping Mumbai consulate
I got my H-1B stamping done in Mumbai consulate on 12th December. Overall experience was pleasant. Since, this office has been moved to BKC in Mumbai, it has been very efficient. I reached consulate around 8 am for 9 am appointment and was allowed to enter consulate immediately. Inside consulate there large number of seats where candidate were allowed to seat as per appointment time and in order. Queue moves very quickly and my turn came at around 9:05 am.
Questions asked by VO,
VO greeted me and asked for current and old passport and I-797.
Do you work for YYYY company?
What is your designation?
What is your salary?
Did you study in US?
What subject did you study?

I would like to share my experience and also few things that can be of help to others.

But as many of experienced people say "KINDLY DON'T DO THAT'. It is always good to go for a fresh stamping on change of employer as it would save your hassle at Port of Entry.
My consulate interview was on 13 Dec at 10:00 AM Mumbai consulate. We opted to stay at hotel near consulate and reached there at sharp 9:30 AM. Once they saw me and my wife with our daughter (2 years old) in lap, they directly took us inside consulate (no waiting time in queue ....Thanks to US Embassy Staff for their co-operation)
Following questions were asked during interview:
1) Who is your client?
2) What is your business of your company ?
3) What would be your annual salary in US ?
4) What is name of your manager ?
5) How many employees working in US?
Questions to my wife :
1) When did you get married ?
2) What would be your role in US ?
3) How old is your daughter?
That it.... And golden words came in..."Your Visa is Approved...have a safe trip to US".
So please be confident in your answers. Kindly do all your homework regarding company details, your roles and responsibilities, location, wages, client information, etc before attending interview.
Do your best and rest leave it on Almighty.

VO: Looking the screen for a while, "So you are going there for the first time right?"
Me: "No, I was there with this company for the last one year in US".
VO: "Do you have your company's photographs?"
Me: "I do not currently have them with me but I can provide them sometime down the line if some time is provided".
VO: "Umm.. at least do you have few payslips that I can check and verify?"
Me: "Sure..here (handed him my last 6 months payslips which I kept ready at hand long before the interview started)".
VO: "(with lots of smile) yes yes this is what I was expecting to see if you are truly working there or not, good. So what does your company do?"
Me: (explained crisply in two lines which I got it from Wikipedia about my company).
VO: "Do you have a bachelor's or a master's degree?"
Me: "Yes I did my MS from Univer.....(got interrupted by VO here)"
VO: "In ? In ?"
Me: "MS in Electrical & Computer Engineering from YYYY University located in ZZZ".
VO: "Describe what you do".
Me: (explained).
VO: "Do you have a client?"
Me: "Yes, we have many clients but all the while I work for my employer only."
VO: "Are your projects internal?"
Me: "Yes"
VO: "Ahh.. I see. So who's your current client whom you offer your services and what do they do?"
Me: (explained)
VO: "What is your annual salary?"
Me: (mentioned).
VO: (golden words uttered).. "VISA APPROVED".
Guys/girls long before the interview started I was close to my nervous breakdown but after interacting with them I was really surprised. They were really friendly and candid in all means. Honesty and crisp two line answers is all what you need for your presentation. If you are honest with what you are then confidence will automatically join you.
