H-1B stamping Mumbai consulate
I got my H-1B stamping done in Mumbai consulate on 12th December. Overall experience was pleasant. Since, this office has been moved to BKC in Mumbai, it has been very efficient. I reached consulate around 8 am for 9 am appointment and was allowed to enter consulate immediately. Inside consulate there large number of seats where candidate were allowed to seat as per appointment time and in order. Queue moves very quickly and my turn came at around 9:05 am.

Questions asked by VO,

VO greeted me and asked for current and old passport and I-797.
Do you work for YYYY company?
What is your designation?
What is your salary?
Did you study in US?
What subject did you study?

VO cancelled my old F-1 visa on old passport, returned to me and kept current passport with her. Overall interview lasted only for a minute.

I am not very sure but looks like US consulate in Mumbai now only allows passport pick up option at trade center office.

H1B Consulate Interview: Mumbai Location : Date 13/12/2013 Time: 10 AM
Hello All,

First of all, many thanks to immihelp forum and users who had shared their stamping experience in past.

I would like to share my experience and also few things that can be of help to others.

First of all some background of my case. I had H1B stamped with previous company (whom I left later) for me and my dependents. However I never been to US on that visa. My new company issued me a new visa using old cap.

Now as my old visa was still valid till July 2014, I could have entered into US with new I797 and old visa (which many people does) and could have avoided so called 'risk' of interview (possible rejection). But as many of experienced people say "KINDLY DON'T DO THAT'. It is always good to go for a fresh stamping on change of employer as it would save your hassle at Port of Entry.

My consulate interview was on 13 Dec at 10:00 AM Mumbai consulate. We opted to stay at hotel near consulate and reached there at sharp 9:30 AM. Once they saw me and my wife with our daughter (2 years old) in lap, they directly took us inside consulate (no waiting time in queue ....Thanks to US Embassy Staff for their co-operation)

Following questions were asked during interview:

1) Who is your client?
2) What is your business of your company ?
3) What would be your annual salary in US ?
4) What is name of your manager ?
5) How many employees working in US?

Questions to my wife :

1) When did you get married ?
2) What would be your role in US ?
3) How old is your daughter?

That it.... And golden words came in..."Your Visa is Approved...have a safe trip to US".

So please be confident in your answers. Kindly do all your homework regarding company details, your roles and responsibilities, location, wages, client information, etc before attending interview.

Do your best and rest leave it on Almighty.

Hoping everyone of you a great Success and Best wishes for interview ahead :-)

Regards,
Ashok

h1b interview successful at hyderabad
Hello everyone,

A great thanks to this forum and everybody's interview experience was worth reading.

Location: Hyderabad

VO: Looking the screen for a while, "So you are going there for the first time right?"

Me: "No, I was there with this company for the last one year in US".

VO: "Do you have your company's photographs?"

Me: "I do not currently have them with me but I can provide them sometime down the line if some time is provided".

VO: "Umm.. at least do you have few payslips that I can check and verify?"

Me: "Sure..here (handed him my last 6 months payslips which I kept ready at hand long before the interview started)".

VO: "(with lots of smile) yes yes this is what I was expecting to see if you are truly working there or not, good. So what does your company do?"

Me: (explained crisply in two lines which I got it from Wikipedia about my company).

VO: "Do you have a bachelor's or a master's degree?"

Me: "Yes I did my MS from Univer.....(got interrupted by VO here)"

VO: "In ? In ?"

Me: "MS in Electrical & Computer Engineering from YYYY University located in ZZZ".

VO: "Describe what you do".

Me: (explained).

VO: "Do you have a client?"

Me: "Yes, we have many clients but all the while I work for my employer only."

VO: "Are your projects internal?"

Me: "Yes"

VO: "Ahh.. I see. So who's your current client whom you offer your services and what do they do?"

Me: (explained)

VO: "What is your annual salary?"

Me: (mentioned).

VO: (golden words uttered).. "VISA APPROVED".

Guys/girls long before the interview started I was close to my nervous breakdown but after interacting with them I was really surprised. They were really friendly and candid in all means. Honesty and crisp two line answers is all what you need for your presentation. If you are honest with what you are then confidence will automatically join you.

Good luck to everyone..

Thanks,

H1B Approved 12th Dec Mumbai
Just had my H1B Interview today. Thanks immihelp and all of you guys for sharing your experiences, it helped me a lot to prepare. Here’s my experience.

Location: Mumbai
Visa : H1B
OFC : 10TH Dec 2013
Consulate Interview: 12th Dec 2013

OFC Interview:
Reached the OFC location 45 minutes ahead of time. It was unnecessary, they let people in only 15 minutes ahead of your appointment time, and you have to wait outside in the sun. There’s no place to sit, not even a shade in the sun.
Appointment itself was done quickly. They put a sticker on your latest passport, take your fingerprints, Take your picture, and stamp your DS 160. All done in 10 minutes.

Visa Interview:
My time was 7:45 Am, and I reached at around 7:30 AM. Didn’t have to stand in queue for too long. We were allowed in. First there is a security check. No electronic devices are allowed, so please keep them with someone you brought along to wait outside. I saw a few people rushing out to keep their cell phones or chargers.
After the security check, you are seated in a big waiting area, with lengthy rows of benches. About 20-25 people are let in at a time in the building where interviews are conducted. Waiting area looks like it is crowded but the queue moved fairly quickly.
Once you are in the building for interview , fingerprints are taken again. Keep your passport out all the while, it was needed to be shown 3-4 times.

After fingerprinting, you enter a queue from which people are asked to go to different interview counters one by one. I was standing at my counter while the guy before me was still being interviewed. I could hear their conversation. He was being asked what’s your education, who paid for you education (he said father), what does your father do, how did you find out about this company. His visa was approved and the Visa Officer (VO) waved at me to come forward.

Me: Good Morning
VO: Good Morning. Who’s your employer?
Me: Answered
VO: For how long have you been working for them?
Me: X years Y Months
VO: What’s your location?
Me: City name, State name, USA
VO: What’s your salary?
Me: XX thousand USD per annum
VO: Is there a client?
Me: No sir, I am a full time employee of XYZ working in their office location only.
VO: Can I see your old passport please?
Me: Sure (Handed it over to him)
VO: What did you study in ABC University?
Me: Masters in Course name
VO: (Stamped CANCELLED on my F1 VISA of old passport, which was a clear hint of him approving H1B)
VO: Are you married?
Me: No sir
VO: Any plans of getting married?
Me: No plans as of now.
VO: Your Visa is approved; you will get your passport in 3-5 days.

Passport is not delivered by courier service anymore. Once you get email notification, you have to pick it up from the OFC location and bring two photo IDs along. Waiting to pick up mine.
Hope this helps some of you. Best wishes!

H1 Approved @Chennai consulate
Hi All,

I want to share my interview with you all. I am very thankful to this forum which helped in preparing for my stamping.

First Day: I made a big mess, I didn't saw my schedule and saw the time only one hour before. Thanks to my friend who helped me by driving through safely and quickly. I made there in time and my finger prints and photo are taken.

'The' Day: I am very nervous as it was the first time I am attending VISA interview, but once I entered into consulate everything is normal. I am very relaxed after seeing many peoples eagerly awaiting like me.

Some of my interview questions:

Greeting exchanged.. :) then followed by following questions.

1) whats your education background?

2) Company?

3) Client?

4) Location where i am going?

5) Is this fresh H1B?

6) Role?

then asked my 1797 and he said me the golden words ' YOUR VISA IS APPROVED '.

Please be confident in your answer. The VISA officer and supporting staffs in consulate are very nice.

All the very best for you all :)

Regards,
Hari

Administrative processing Merida
Hi all,
Can someone please advise on their recent experience around administrative processing ( especially in merida). Here is quick summary of my journey so far
- h1b visa holder
- sept 25: got my finger print and picture taken by the consulate
- sept 26: went for the interview in the consulate: at the end of the interview was handed a yellow sheet 221g and the officer stated that my application needed additional processing before it can be issued. No update since.

Some of conversion points
Where do you work? Responded as stated on my approval notice
What do you do? Responded as stated on the application
What location? Provided the location but VO seemed to have doubt about the location
Asked a few questions about my parents. Asked if my dad was involved in politic in my home country. Answered no
Went told me to take a sit and to talk to someone for a few minutes and came and typed up a few things for a moment and then handed me the yellow sheet.

As of today I still haven't heard from the embassy and I have been checking the ceac site for update nothing there either.
Any advise? At this point I'm considering getting my passport back and return to my home country since I can't afford to here any longer.
Thanks
