H1B New - Stamping - Chennai
Hi All,

First i would like to thank the people who posted their visa exp in immihelp. It has helped me a lot to understand the process.

I have attended PAI at Chennai consulate for H1B New stamping on 11th June'12.

It was very cool and no need to worry if you are going for H1B-New stamping. Visa officers will be very polite and they will not spend more than 2 mins asking you questions.

1. I have arrived at consulate at 8.30 AM(Mine was scheduled at 9.15 AM). They called 9.15 batch at 8.45 to join the queue to enter the consulate. So plan to be there only before 30 mins.
2. After joining the queue keep your appointment letter, DS 160 confirmation page and passport readily available in your hand and handover it in counter near the entrance to consulate. They will verify the documents and return them to you. They will give you token.
3. Once you get the token you will enter the consulate after physical check-up by security and another person will check your files and wallets. Don't carry any CD/DVDs, pend-drives etc.
4. Once security cleared, you will be asked to take seat near some counters(1 to 11). There you will have LCD screens displaying token numbers and respective counter numbers. Wait there till your token number appears. Goto the counter and join the queue. Handover over your token, passport, HDFC Receipts, appointment letter, DS 160, BEP letter(Original), I797 approval notice(xerox copy) to counter. They will bundle them all with a rubber band and return them asking to go to counter 12.
5. At counter 12 they take your finger prints and asks you to go to next building for interview.
6. Just like in step-4, here also you need to wait for your token number displayed on LCD screen. Once dispalyed goto respective counter and confidently answer the questions asked by Visa Officer. Your visa will be approved. The below are the questions asked by them in most of the cases.

1. Employer Name
2. Client Name
3. Work Location in US
4. Reporting Manager
5. Salary in US
6. Highest Qualification
7.Project and Roles
8. Did you read the Labour Rights pamplet.

All the best

My wife and I we're both applying for H1b visa to same company.
Applied in Chisinau, Moldova

Interview appointment was to 08:30am, so we cam at 08:00 and started waiting in a line.
At 8:30 the door opened and the man asked "who's for 8:30" ?
They started to invite people inside by two.

When we got invited, we passed the metal detector gates (my belt rang)
They asked to turn mobile phones off and put them on the shelves.
I had no mobile phone with me. My car keys raised no questions at all.

Went inside, passed our documents to the window.
- sorry, you paid wrong amount!
- O_o ? how? 1920 lei is $190 in USD
- no, our exchange rate is different, you should add more to 2280 lei!
- where?
- find a bank anywhere nearby, and come back till 11am
- O_o, ok

We rushed to the bank, bank is closed, opens at 9:00am only
Waited 20 minutes for the bank to open, and paid missing amount.

Second try.
Went inside, it was 9:30am, passed our documents, this time they were ok.
I had the bottom part of I-797 Notice of Action, and they asked why don't I have the whole document?
I answered that it's written on the document itself - to send the worker only the bottom part and keep the rest.
It worked, and we sat to wait

Like in 20 minutes our names were called and we were invited to window#2, together, my wife and I.
So we had a double interview, both at once, though my wife is a separate H1b
VO was a pretty korean girl, speaking English very clear and easy to understand

VO: Hello!
ME: Good mooorning (smile)!
VO: How are you?
ME: Fine, thank you!
VO: So, you are going to work in America!?
ME: Yes, exactly :)
VO: You're going to work in company YYYY ?
ME: Yes
VO: Tell me about the company, what does it do?
ME: blah blah blah
VO: Ok, tell me what is your education background?
ME: B.S. in Informatics
VO: Where graduated?
ME: University ZZZ
VO: Year?
ME: 2004
VO: And you (to my wife)?
Wife: same university
VO: Same year?
Wife: Yeah :)
VO: And what you did all this years, after graduation?
ME: blah blah blah, worked, blah blah
VO: and you?
Wife: blah blah worked too blah
VO: when you got married?
ME: at mm.yy
VO: oh, no so far ago..
ME: yes (smile)
VO: Can you pass me your diplomas?
ME: We have diplomas and evaluations
VO: both please
ME: here
VO: thank you
VO: so where are you going to go? The location?
ME: city, state
VO: is the company headquaters located there?
ME: yes, exactly
VO: where are you going to live there? got any house?
ME: we're going to rent an apartment
VO: do you know what your salaries will be?
ME: $xx.xxx
VO: Very good.
VO: Can you pass me your petitions letters?
ME: I have a petition support letter, and a job offer letter
VO: can I see both?
ME: sure
VO: passed through all documents for 30 seconds
VO: I am glad to tell you I am going to approve your visas!
ME: Thank you very much!
VO: You can come tomorrow at 4pm to get your passports.
VO: Here have your diplomas back, but I will keep your letters, you may have them back tomorrow.
ME: Thanks alot! Good bye!

I liked the interview alot, and got very excited
The key is to smile, to be confident, to look directly in the eyes
Don't worry if you forget some info or some English words, they're helpful and easy to talk with

H1 and H4 together?
Hi All
I applied for H1 and got the approval. Now going to apply for my VISA Interview soon as I am waiting for my forms from client.
1. Here I am in India with about 10 yrs experience and applying for H1 first time. I am working with a reputed comany in India. What kind of questions can I expect in teh interview?

2.My husband is also working here in India and I have a Kid(5.5 yrs old). As we are planning to go together I want to apply for H4 for my kid and husband also. Is it suggested to apply all 3 together? or is it better to apply H4 for my family post my H2 gets stamped.
What are questions expected in both cases, and has anyone recently gone through this kind of scenario?

Please suggest me as I am very much tensed and not sure how to plan for the interview scheduling.

H1B and H4 Approved on 8th June 2012, HYD Counslate
First of all i would like to thank everyone who has shared their expereiences in this forum. They have really helped me a lot.

I got my H1B , H4 Visas issued on June 08th'12. I was asked just some standard questions and then finally the golden words " Ok Sir!, I have issued your Visa."

No docs asked other than I797B.

I would like to know if anyone who has attended the interview on 8th June'12 at Hyderabad Counslate got back their passports or what is the current status of the passports on VFS. Mine it says " Passport under process at US Embassy/Counslate", and by when can i expect the passport to be delivered to me.

Once again Thanks everyone.
