H1B experience June 8 2012 Chennai
Firstly I have to thank this forum for easing me of any tension.A very important advice If you are coming from outstation come little early and there is a place outside the embassy to deposit your bag, mobile phones, and other electronic goods. Please have the copy of interview letter all the time ready. So here starts my experience.
My interview was scheduled at 11:30 AM.Reached there at 10:45 AM.Stood on the queue to get a token. They asked for the appointment letter. They will read the barcode on that sheet. The token has two copies. One is a counsulate copy and other is your copy.
Just remember the number.Remember again no bags not even empty bags,no mobiles no electronic goods.Inside they will allow two people at a time.Where they would do security check. No envelopes, files are allowed.Plastic covers are ok.Then you will pass through metal detector. Then they will search you entirely with their hands. After that you enter the next building where there will be counters 1-13.Please check whether your number is listed on any screen.Three people can stand in one counter as per the number listed above in the screen.
The teller will be at the other side of the glass and will be using a mike to speak to you.Your mike will be pointing twoards you on the other side of the glass. There is a small gap between the glass to pass the documents. When your turn comes, give your passport, 1 passport size photo,BEP letter,CEAC confirmation,MRV reciept,i797 form,LCA.The teller will arrange the documents and arrange them.HE/she will ask when was the photo taken.Reply within the last 1 month which is what all were saying. As you know the photo should be 50*50 photo with white background. After this I went to counter 12 for finger printing. Some might have wetty palms and please ask for a napkin to wipe your hands. You may have to do until the finger prints are taken to the satisfaction of the person. Then you will be asked to wait in a chair in the veranda of that building.6-7 people will be sitting and the security will allow those 6 people to the next building. In this building only there will be interview counters 14-32.There will be a monitor where you have to wait till your paper token number appears on the screen. If it does not appear wait on the chair.Relax with some deep breathes. When your number is displayed stand in the queue of the counter displayed.3 people will be standing in the queue and 1 person will be near the officer. There will be no chair for the interviewee so its not a traditional interview per se.The VO shocked me when he spoke in tamil.Heard that they can speak in six languages.Ofcourse the lady infront of me was begging for a visa and annoying him by providing some stale documents. The VO got angry and told her point blank take your passport and leave in tamil.Ofcourse I was not frightened because I have read enough about that here. Before me there was a Sardar from my company(different client and different city) .His was over in flat 40 seconds. So mine was exact replica.Same questions. In a sense question paper got out.

ME:Good morning sir(passed on the documents)
VO:What is your highest qualification
ME:(Did not hear the question properly, but smelled it by instinct) Bachelor of Engineeriing Computer science

VO:Who is your client
ME: **** **** **
VO:Which City are you travelling?
ME:Chicago Illionois
VO: (Staring at his screen for few seconds)
VO:Have you read the document pointing to the Know your rights pasted on the corner.
ME:Yes I have
VO:Any questions
Me:No
VO:(Passed on the documents) and said passport will reach in a week.

ie folks after that you can return home where autowallahs will milk your happiness. They will charge you like A/C car but you cnt help in hot sun.

@ Ashoka

Thanks for replying buddy.... I guess I dont have another option but to wait :-(

FYI...I waited 5 months for my petition to be approved. After 2 days of approval It again went for amendment for 3 weeks and the status was changed from Approved to "Acceptance" (which is still the status on the USCIS website :-) Praying for some miracle here... thanks again for replying. All the best to others for their interview.

H4 Visa
Im uma having my PA on Jun 13th. I have one query and also confused about this.

1. I applied H1B Visa.
2. I applied H4 visa for my husband.
3. My husband is currently working.

My question is: do my husband need to produce any no objection letter from his current company for leaving to US on the day of PA.

How come he could resign/quit his job until we know that our visa is approved or not..

Kindly give some idea on how to deal this situation on my PA interview.

Both of us attending the visa interview on the same day!
