L1B Blanket Visa Approved
I owe to add my experience over here for others as this site has helped me preparing for the interview significantly. My interview was on 3rd week of September 2017.

I am directly jumping on to Interview day.

When I entered the building at 9:30 there was already 10/12 people waiting for L1 visa at the entrance. We were asked to arrange the documents in a specific order. After arranging it I entered the main building. There I had to pay $ 500 as fee for blanket visa.(Note: this is not needed for individual type). Then I was in queue for interview.

It was long wait of 45mins in the queue for interview. I was trying to keep my mind clean without any thoughts. I was continuously singing one of my favorite songs "Sadda dil vi tu.. " to keep my mind busy. I drank 1/2 glass of water not to feel thirsty in front of VO.

My turn came finally.

Me : Good Morning Sir
VO : Good Morning. Can you please give me the documents.
Me : Sure
VO : Which company do you work for.
Me : xxxxxxx
VO : How long you are working there?
Me : 2 years
VO : What will be your salary in US?
Me : xxxxxx (exact figure whatever mentioned in petition without rounding up)
VO : What are your specialized knowledge?
Me : Explained (2/3 tools)
VO : Can you please tell me in details?
Me : all the tools? or any specific one?
VO : Anyone
Me : Explained the 1st tool
VO : Where will you be travelling?
Me : xxxx

there was a dead silence after that for 5 mins. This was just killing me from inside. I was trying to keep the smile on my face intact not to reflect the tension.

Finally he said "Its approved." I thanked him and returned.
He kept my Passport only for stamping and returned my I129s forms.

Tips:
1) Read the petition end to end if you have time.
2) Stay ice cool during the interview with a bright smile on your face always.
3) Try not to mess up with the first few questions as these are direct questions and any mistake here may cost you your visa.

All the best !!! Hope this helps!!

L1A Individual Approved
I had my L1A Individual Visa interview today and the visa was approved.

Timeline:

June-end: L1A individual was filed under premium processing.
July 12: RFE on my petition
Sep 5: Response to RFE submitted
Sep 11: L1A petition approved

These were the questions asked in Visa Interview

Me: Good morning, sir. How are you?
VO: I am fine. Can I please have your passport

I handed over the passport

VO: So yours is an L1 individual visa. Is it A or B?
Me: A

VO: Who is your petitioner
Me: Gave my company's name

VO: Are you traveling for your company or any client?
Me: For a client

VO: Who is your client?
Me: Gave client name

VO knew client was located in CA and verified if I was going there - I told yes.

VO: Your designation
Me: Engagement Manager

VO: How many direct reportees?
Me: I will have 7 direct reportees

VO: How many indirect reportees?
Me: I have no indirect reportees

VO: Whom do you report to?
Me: Senior Account Manager of my company

VO: What do you do for client?
Me: Gave the details.

VO: How long will you be in US?
Me: Around 2 years

VO: What will be your salary?
Me: Gave the figure

The VO then was scrolling up and down (most probably reading my DS-160 on his screen) and then after a moment said my visa was approved.

From a few cases I noticed, the key clincher for an L1 visa is the salary. Since there is no salary cap on L1 unlike H1 visas, many companies misuse this. You should have a substantially higher salary than an average H1 guy since L1 is for managers.

Hope my experience helps others :)

he was typing continuously, looking at me once throwing questions... after a pause he said, your L1A blanket is ‘Not Clearly Approvable’ and gave blue slip.

I was damn confident providing answers, kept eye contact, did not lean on the wall, maintain a gentle smile...

i didn't find what went wrong?

Some of you may say working in client location could be a reason, but my friend..lots of people have got approved visa saying this earlier, as many of us sit in client office but work for parent company, under full control of parent company as most of the applicants are from service based company and it is the TRUTH.

My experience with the whole process is everything is predetermined, and you will never get L1A Blanket unless you have H1 or L1B earlier for that you worked in US earlier for the same company.

I have B1 but that did not help. It is of no luck, unless u mess up badly in the interview.

Any suggestion from experts will help everyone.

L1A blanket reject- Chennai
I will directly jump to the Visa interview questions as others have outlined the other processes very well.

I work for one of the largest companies in the world and handle the team that handles Logistics and Transportation.

Me: Good morning, how are you!
VO: Good morning, I am well Thanks.
VO: So what visa are you applying for'
Me: L1A blanket
VO: What team would you be joining
Me: Answered and gave a one sentence detail of what team does.
VO: So you going to Abc headquarters
ME: No, I would be going to ZZZ, my teams functions out to ABC.
VO: So what would be your designation and Salary
Me: Program Manager and $XXk with around $xxK stocks bonus.
VO: How many people would you handle
Me: I would have 2 leads reporting into me and between 25-30 specialist reporting to me. I am giving the range as we are hiring a few more in this month.
VO: Whom would you report into?
ME: Senior Program manager.
VO: What will be your role there?

My 3 year old start talking something and wanted by attention to him, but I had the situation under control. He did not wanted to be with his mom. So I had to carry him.

VO : Looks like he is a problem child today.
Me: A little bit.
(We all exchange smiles)

VO: Whats you name, little one?
My child did not answer him. I asked him to but he still did not.
We smiled again. Did not want to embarrass him or get embarrass and so I jumped into the answer.

Me: Answered about the role.
VO: Please wait for couple of minutes, I will be back.

He leaves from there and come back after 2mins.

VO: Sorry, I had to step out. Hmm (shows a sign of disappointment, felt that he wanted to approved but something did not allow him to.) The blanket visa rules are very strict, I am not able to approve the visa currently. Please talk to your HR and see if they want you to apply for a different type of visa.

Gives me the blue form and Thanks.

Dreams shattered!

I am not sure if I need to apply as L1A individual or they want me to apply as L1B. My skills is not strong for L1B from what I know and what the law firm filing my blanket said.
Any suggestions.

L1A Chennai 221G Blue form
I attended the interview for L1A on 18Th September and was handed 221G Blue form. I wanted check if my experience is similar to fellow interviewers who were handed the blue form
- VO picked up the blue form mid interview but continued to question. Most cases that I have seen below the interviewers give the blue form after the interview
- The case start date is from before the actual day of the interview ? Is that normal or is the case start date as the same day as the actual interview.

L1B visa reprocess instead of extension on similar role
Hi,

My L1B visa stamp having expired date Jul 2019 and on visa PED date is Jul 2018. I am planning to go India in Nov 2017 for one of family function and also for fresh L2 visa application process for my dependent spouse and kids.

I asked to my office attorney about can i do extension stamping in Nov 2017 as i am going there and doing fresh L2 visa also for dependant. And attorney suggested me like there are many push back is coming for L1B extension visa. So if you are already going to India in Nov 2017 then try with fresh new petition and new visa application process along with L2 instead of doing extension process later before July 2018.

Is there any risk to do new petition and fresh application on similar role for L1B instead of extension later ?

What i will answer if visa officer ask me why i am reapplying instead of extension?
