L1 B individual petition
Hi,

My company filed for my L1-B individual petition under premium processing. My petition got approved, an I am awaiting visa interview.

Are there any chances of my visa getting rejected at the interview?

L1A blanket approved
First of all Thanks a lot to this forum for all the valuable inputs it has provided and made my life simple!!!
Here is my L1A stamping story.

My appt was 9 in the morning, reached there 15mins prior.. but no use, had to wait almost 1hour sweating outside. The crowd was unusually large.
Once in, the process is pretty quick. I was in and out within 30mins.
I will skip the initial steps as most of them have already mentioned it in this forum and jump straight to the questions from VO

VO: Good morning
ME: Very good morning, how you doing today?

VO: What is your role?
ME: program manager

VO: Which client?
ME: Will be managing YYYY client to start of with, but would be working out of my parent companies office in YYYY city

VO: Your indian salary in lakhs and US salary
ME: Answered

VO: Who would you report to and what does he do?
ME: Answered, pretty straight forward

VO: How many people report to you?
ME: XX people report to me out of which X would be direct and XX would be indirect

Thanks your Visa is approved :)

Some key takeaways guys:
1. Be confident
2. Be patient, as the wait times can be frustrating
3. While applying for L1A blanket, remember its executive position. So, do not mention a particular client name(unless asked and you can say will manage YYYY client to start off with) and most importantly never mention about a project. It will create an impression that you are a project manager
4. Always talk big like managing an account or a client and never a project
5. Also when mentioning about your reportees, just add a word at the end saying they all have their teams and manage their own projects in different portfolios
6. Make sure your Indian and US salaries reflect your executive positions
7. When asked about your roles and responsibilities, make sure you start with account management and talk about budgetting, contracts, proposals etc., and maybe at the end come down to project or program delivery.
8. Be sure to memorize your reportee details as well as people you report to all the way up to your CEO
9. Always mention you will work out of your parent companies office. You can mention that you will spend sometime at client location too, but would be present most of the time at the parent companies office
10. DS160 is the single most crucial document as that is the one visible to the VO and he would be browsing through it while asking questions. So, pls make sure you fill it with utmost care.

All the best to the future aspirants

Thanks all for your inputs in this forum, which really helps one prepare for the visa interviews. Adding my bit...

We went for d biometrics on 8th apr, visa interview scheduled on 10th apr.

Biometrics process took about 25-30 min, end-to-end. Must haves - ur passport, Appointment confirmation letter, DS-160 confirmation letter. They do advise your to take 1 set of passport-size photo as per US specification for d visa interview.

Advise for filling up DS-160 form, if you or your spouse don't have a surname. Like it was in my wife's case. You need to enter your name against the surname and FNU against given name. We had to regenerate a new form at a cafe outside d centre, charging us 300/-. This would not impact your appointments.

We reached 15 min earlier at the embassy for the interview slot of 8:30 am. But by then, most of the applicants for the 8:30 slot were already inside and queue for 9:00 slot had started. Only clear bags or folders are allowed to be carried inside. Mobiles, keys, other articles etc can be deposited at d security.

After security check, we entered the embassy area. My passport was checked by d associate and they attached the 797 n I-29 to the passport. Then we waited for about 15 min before entering the interview area. Firstly, we had to go through finger-printing again. Then the interview...d following is d sequence

C. Good morning
A. Good morning

(Then he got very fascinated with the laminated DU grad degree of my wife; pulled it inside to have a thorough look of it, saying he has never seen a DU grad degree)

C. Have you travelled to US before?
A. Yes, but not on d same visa. I had travelled on a B1 visa

C. N u ma'am, have u travelled to US before? (Asking my wife)
W. No

C. Which city would you be travelling to?
A. Jacksonville

C. What will be your role title in US?
A. Answered

C. Were you working? (Asking my wife)
W. Yes....(with brief description of the work)

C. Thanks. Your visa is approved.

The interview was for not more than 2 min. Then entire process end-to-end was for 35-40 min.

Be confident be normal...as if it's any other official conversation. Dress in anything which makes you comfortable rather than for the consular.

All d best!

Hello, this forum was very helpful in the adventures Visa journey we had so far and I want to just share our learnings here

Aug 2013 my husband got a approval for L1A visa under blanket petition , travelled to US for 2 months and returned to pick myself and son. The most embarasing incident happened...my husband's passport got washed in the washer!!
Lesson 1: Treasure your passport

Applied immediately for Visa after receiving a new passport. However the consulate rejected stating there is no concept of re-stamping!! its always a fresh application even though the Visa was still valid though damaged.
Lesson 2: A fresh i129 form is a must and there is nothing called re-stamping

After consulting with the attorney, the company then filled for an individual petition which took about 10 days for approval from the day it was filled and yesterday we got the Visa approval at the Chennai consulate
Lesson 3: Approach the attorney for best suggestions on next steps

There were no surprise question in any of the above interviews. Confidence is the key.. Life does not begin or end with a Visa..so keep calm and be confident. All the best to all who plan to appear for the interview

L1A Blanket approved
Hi guys
First like to thank people for sharing their views and experiences for every ones benefit.

My L1 A was approved a few days back.

Questions asked
1 designation
2 salary
3 reportees
4 need to be in us
5 total years of experience
6 about the project

Also BEP is not required. Also please carry a picture in Us format. Had to run and sweat around for it. Also no need to arrive early. Just be on time. No suits and blazers matter
Rather it shows of extra desperation. Its too hit and humid in Chennai and u might have to wait for 3 hours in queue like it happened with me.

Finally getting the visa was a relief.

BEP letter is required or not
Hi,

Can someone please tell me whether BEP letter is required or not when the appointment is booked through BEP login. From My HR, I heard that BEP letters are not required from April 1st.

Can someone please confirm?

Thanks to this forum for valuable guidance.

For me only two Qs:

1. Which company u work for?
2. What do your company do?

After my reply to 2nd Questions VO read company's brief detail given in Form I-129S and then approves the visa.

Had my OFC on 24th Mar and Consular interview on 25th Mar. Had been with family (wife and 2 children (one of them is an infant)).

OFC:
Reached there on time. As suggested by others, no point reaching there early. There were a lot of people who had come ahead of time waiting in the sun.
My wife and children were allowed directly inside while I stood in the queue (there were abt 10 people ahead of me) to get the documents scrutinized. My name on the DS-160 form had to be changed. The scrutineer (or whatever you call him) suggested to go to a browsing center just adjacent to the OFC center to get it corrected. This was a browsing center just for this reason. You are not provided a browsing station, but they have people who will get it done for you for a charge. They charged Rs.200 for changing my name (including the printout).
With the correction, I was able to get into the OFC center.
Got the formality completed in 15 mins in there.

Consular interview:
Again, reached there on time. I had my car key with me (with autocop), which was not allowed. Here also, there was a guy in an Innova parked nearby who kept the keys for Rs.200. There were few others who had come with their mobiles and they also had to park their electronic belongings with this guy.
Since we had an infant, we were allowed inside without having to wait in the queue (there were about 50+ ahead of us). Once in, there were only 2 more (one family and an elderly person) ahead of us.

The interview was quite short.

Me: Good morning officer
VO: Good morning. Can I see your petition?
Me: <Handed over petition.>

VO: What is your current role?
Me: <Answered>

VO: What are the responsibilities?
Me: <Answered>

VO: Where are you going?
Me: <Answered>

VO: Who is the client?
Me: <Answered>(that the move is to the HQ and not to a client location)

VO: How big in the HQ?
Me: <Answered>

VO: <Looked at his computer for 2 mins>. Did you travel to the US in the name of <some_name>
Me: Yes. With expanded initials, it would be <name>. So, it is the same.

VO: <Looked closely at his compute again for a min>. OK, I am approving your visas. You should get them in 2-3 days time.
Me: Thank you, have a good day.

Tips:
1. Reach there on time.
2. Do not carry any electronic items. As I found out there, this includes remote sensor car keys as well.
