L1 after L2
Hello Guys,

This site is very very helpful.

My L1B is being processed and my interview is scheduled at the end of this month. I learnt now that L1B approval probability is more when you are applying with ur dependents.

As my wife didn't have passport i applied for only my L1B visa.

Just wanted to know if there are any issues for applying for L2 for my wife after my L1 is approved ??

And What are the issues if i already fly and then we process my wife's L2 visa?

L1 B visa approved - chennai
Hello All,
First of all I would like to thank this forum which helped me in understanding what are the questions typically asked by visa officer, I would like to thank my company for conducting 2 rounds of mock interview, really it helped me.

My consulate appointment is at 11.30, I reached one hour before, but still security allowed me to get in.
Documents are scrutinized, and they will arrange in order, will be give a token and that token # will be displayed on the screen.
Now its my turn.

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning

VO: For which company do you work for?
Me: xxx company

VO: What is your company about?
Me: Described about my company

VO: Is it a service based or product based?
Me: Replied to his answer (Doesn't matter whether it is product based or service based, tell the truth )

VO: What is your project?
Me: Explained about my project, just highlighted the points (Don't try to describe the complete project )

VO: What is your role in this project?
Me: Described in just 3 sentences

VO: Ok, sir your visa is approved.
Me: Thank you very much, and have a great day.

Although you need to have some luck, but preparation and mock interview would help a lot.

Need help regd DS160
I am applying for L1 B Blanket. I filled my DS160 and generated the confirmation page and got my visa interview slot as well. But later I noticed that I have provided one of my work related information wrongly (typo). Now I have to fill in another DS 160 and take both the confirmation pages for the interview. Will it impact my visa decision in the interview?

L1A Blanket approved
Hello everyone,
Like everyone else, I would also like to thank this amazing forum to helping me understand what is required for the Consulate interview. Of course, there is luck also associated with approvals.

My L1A Blanket Visa was approved at Chennai on Dec 2nd, 2013.

I had my OFC at 8:30 am at Teynampet. I had reached there at 7:30 am itself and I was one of the first few in the queue. But the OFC centre was a bit mis managed in terms of the queue. Eager candidates kept jumping the queue but were eventually sent back by the authorities. Also, the first batch is at 8 am but the centre didnt start operating till 8:15 am. Once inside, it was a breeze. Everything was done in less than 10 minutes. Please note that they stamp your DS-160 confirmation page at the OFC centre. This is the confirmation page that you will need for the PAI and not a fresh copy of the confirmation page.

From the OFC, I had to bide quite a bit of time as my PAI was at 11:30 am at Gemini Circle Consulate. I had breakfast at Anand Bhavan which was quite good. Fortunately, I had booked a cab for the entire day and I sat inside the cab reading the newspaper for around 2 hours. Plus, it was raining very heavily that day. I went to the Consulate queue at 11 am only to be greeted by even heavier rain. It is quite a nightmare as there is no shade in the initial queue. Plus, there was a delay of around 30 mins for each batch. So we were finally sent in at 12 noon.

There are 3 different queues that you need to go to ...
1). 1st queue will give you a token that is stuck on your passport. Mostly the token starts with a'L'. After this the Consulate personnel (Indian) will help you assemble your documents in rubber banded bunch. This bunch contains your passport, Interview letter, DS-160 confirmation page stamped at OFC, 3 copies of I129S and I797 and the DDs.
2). 2nd queue will accept the DD bunch and give the rest back
3). 3rd queue is the interview queue.

The first 2 queues were done in around 15 mins. And finally my turn to give the interview arrived ... This is how it went ...

VO: Hello Sir, How are you?
Me: I am fine Thank You. Good afternoon and how are you Sir?
VO: I am fine too. Thanx.

VO: So Sir, How long have you been working in your current organization?
Me: Mentioned the duration (greater than 3 years)

VO: Who is your client?
Me: Mentioned the name of the client

VO: Which city will you be going to?
Me: Mentioned the city with state

VO: How long have you been working for this client?
Me: Mentioned the duration (greater than 1 year)

VO: Which client did you work for prior to your current client?
Me: Mentioned the name of previous client

VO: Was this client from the same domain as your current client?
Me: No. Current client is from XYZ while the previous was from ABC

VO: Where did you work prior to your current organization?
Me: Mentioned the name of the company (it’s a weird pronunciation)

VO: I am sorry, what’s the name again?
Me: Pronounced it again and mentioned it’s based in Northern Europe and hence has a local influence on the name.

VO: Did you work in Europe for them?
Me: Yes. I was based in XYZ country for around 8 months.

VO: What was your designation there?
Me: Project Lead.

VO: What will be your responsibilities at onsite?
Me: Mentioned 4-5 sentences covering Project Management, Risk Management, Resource Management, Compliance Management and Delivery/Quality management

VO: What will your designation be at onsite?
Me: Program Manager

VO: Whom will you report to at onsite?
Me: Associate Director – with name.

VO: How many direct reports will you have at onsite?
Me: I will have 4 to start with and I will be required to hire at least 3 more.

VO: What are the designations of the 4?
Me: 2 of them are Architects while the other 2 are Senior Developers.

VO: Okay Sir. Your Visa is approved and it will take us a maximum of 4 days to deliver your passport
Me: Thank you very much Sir. Is there any more paperwork that you will need?
VO: No I am fine. Thank You.
Me: Thanx again and have a nice day.

He took at least 15 and at most 45 seconds between questions while continuously typing and verifying stuff on his machine. The entire interview took around 4-5 minutes.

All the best to everyone.

Hi all,

First of all thank you so much for each and every one who posted experiences in this site.

My interview scheduled on 29th November 2013 @ chennai at 7:30 AM

Here is the conversation with VO

VO:Hi
Me:Good Morning Officer
VO:Good Morning, Please pass your documents
Me:I handed over.
VO:VO was looking into petition and asked I never heard of your company, please tell me about your company.
Me:I explained in one line
VO:Can you please elaborate what products it do?
Me:I explained in detail on which prodcuts our company manufactures and explained in which product I am working on.
VO:Ok What is your specialization?
Me:In tension I told my job duties
VO:Ok, What you are specialized into?
Me:Then I relaised and told my specialsation.
VO:What is this xxx technology?
Me:I explained it.
VO:This technology is there outside also what is so unique and specialised from others, I don't see this as a specialised category.
Looks like you have to apply for another Visa.
Me :My heart beat stopped and I thought he is going to reject it.But luckily he gave me time to expalin it.
I gained courage and explained that this is what it is different from outside technology and other use xxx tools and we use our propritery xxx tools.
We have our own propritery stack.
VO:What is stack?
Me:I explained
VO:Then he typed something in Monitor and he asked my petition in between.
He read few pages and started stamping on my petition.
The he said I am approving your Visa, Have a nice stay in USA. You will receive your passport in two days and give one petition to HR and another carry with you when
you travel.
Me: I could n't believe that he approved my visa. I said Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving. He said Thank You.
I left the counter immediately.

During all my conversation he was looking into my eyes. This made me more tensed.
What I observed is we have to show confidence and rest all leave it to God.
One person before me got rejected. His Visa was L1A.
He rejected with reason saying he has only 4 people reporting him there in USA. That person tried to explain saying he has more number of people
reporting in India and team in USA is newly formed. But VO did not listen to him and said please ask your HR to apply for another category.

All the best for those who are attending.

Regards,
Sunitha

L1-B Blanket Approved on 21st Nov @ Chennai
I had my biometrics taken on 20th Nov and Visa Interivew on 21st Nov in Chennai.

I would like to thank this group for having listed all the experiences of the people for L1 interviews. This greatly helped me in preparing for the interview. This is the best source of information for preparing the interview. Before going for the interview, I read almost 10 pages in this thread and got a fair idea of the entire process. Based on people’s experiences I prepared a list of 20qns that I might face in the interview process. I prepared very well for all these questions (prepared for what if the same question is asked in a different way). This thread also helped me how we need to talk to the VO officer apart from the questions. This thread gave me real confidence to face the interview.

21st Nov : Visa Interivew
My appointment was at 8-30. Reached consulate by 7-45 and there are more than 100 people waiting in the queue including 7-30 batch. We were asked to stand in different queues based on the batch timings. Finally around 8-40, we were asked to go in.
I had been to Visa consulate in March 2012 for dependency visa and they used to give the token while you are entering the main gate itself, after checking passport, DS-160 and confirmation page. And I remember that the document verification happened in the first building and visa interview will take place in adjacent building.
But this time, some renovation work is going on and the 1st building is closed. As soon as we enter inside, we were asked to go to the 2nd building (with out any document verification and token number). When I entered the 2nd building, I was given a token number and sticked that to the passport. From here onwards everything was based on the token number. There are many people inside this building as every one comes in directly to this building now. When my token flashed for cash counter, a VFS agent approached me and verified the documents and put all 3 sets of I129,I-797 and BEP letter inside the passport with a rubber band. I went to the cashier counter and gave my DD, he verified the details and gave a receipt stappled to the I-129S.
Then I was waiting for my turn for the visa interview. Here few things you need to note, there are too many people in the room with VOs taking visa interviews and you may tend to notice each conversation etc. but try to focus on your questions and answers that you need to tell and try to prepare urself on how to greet the VO and be confident. If you see other’s visa rejected, that may lead you to tense. So focus on your things and try to leave others.
There are 3 things the VO wants to check for L1-B, 1.) Specialized skills/tools/products, 2.) Why only you? 3.) Why cant be this be done in India? If you have got solid answers for these then its very easy to do in the interview.
Finally, my token number was displayed in the TV and I stood in the line. There were 2 people infront of me. The VO seemed like a nice guy and greets nice. He issues the visas to 2 before me. (that gave a kind of positive note).

I walked to the counter and said Good Morning Sir, How are you?
VO : Good Morning Sir, I am fine Thank You.
(He noticed the tag of my company).
VO : So do you work for YYYY company? ( he was smiling and asking me. That gave a very positive note for me).
Me: yes Sir, I work for YYYY company.
VO: Good. Are you with “ZZZ1” business or “ZZZ2” business?(He knows very clearly about our company and the 2 main businesses that we are into. And there are many ppl applying for L1 from 1st business and lot of time they get pink slip due to many candidates applying for these visas, I was working on the other business luckily).
Me : No Sir, I work for “ZZZ2” business.
VO : L1-B?
Me: Yes Sir.
VO : Sir tell me your specialization skills.
Me: I have been working as “technology specialist” in “ZZZ” company for the last 8 years and I have been working on this project for the past 6 years……………(technical information no how I was specialized)
(VO was writing in his computer while I was answering).
VO : How much will you be getting in US?
Me : xxxx$
(He started stamping on the papers and I knew that my visa was approved…..a biiiiiiiiiiiggggggggg relief).
VO : which place are you going in US?
Me : xxxx place.
VO: you company also has another facility in yyyyy location(this was for the other business unit).
Me : yes sir, but that is for other business employees, for my business location is xxxx.
VO: they have a better weather than you folks (smiling).
Me : Yes Sir, specially during winter season (smiling).
VO : Sir your Visa is approved.
Me : Thank you Sir.
(handling over the documents to me)
VO : Please keep these petition documents with you as you would need them when you get into the plane to US. Have a good stay in US.
Me : Thank you Sir, Have a good day.

You will have 2-3 minutes to convince the VO about our specialized skills or products and why are you chosen for this. If you can practice on this well, you have better chance to get the visa provided everything else is in order.

As many people said already, confidence and positive attitude are important here. Try everything from your side and leave the rest to the luck.
