L1A petition under premium category
Recently my company nominated me for L1A under premium category.

I was looking for blanket only and my organisation said they can accept that, but my question is if L1 is petitioned under premium category do we have only L1A individual?? Or can I opt for L1A blanket under premium mode?

Please suggest.

L1A Blanket petition approved
I had taken guidance from immihelp. So I wish to contribute my experience too.
I traveled to US in L1B . There in 2018 we tried to change the status from L1B to L1A. we got a RFE. We had to to provide all documents starting from W2 of proposed subordinates, Degree certificates of proposed subordinates, State Tax filing showing all the proposed subordinates state tax was filed in the reporting state. Apart from that as a manager outside US for more over 1 year we submitted the pay slips, degree certificates and the screen shoot of the PMS, Leave approval, Promotion recommendation of subordinates . But it was DENIED for the reason that the subordinates had not relived me from my day to day duties.

After that I return to home country and after more than one year we applied again in L1A blanket . My interview lasted for just 4/5 minutes.Below the conversation we had.

Me- Hi, Good Morning. How are you doing ?
VO- Doing good.(Smiled) Can I have your documents ?

She started checking my documents and asked

VO-L1A blanket ?
Me- Yes.
VO-How long are you with your current company ?
Me- 13 + years

After this she started typing on her system and while typing she was asking me the following questions.

VO- To whom you are going to report ?
Me- Said the person's name. (but she asked what is the position of my reporting person ) I said-AVP
VO- To whom your reporting manager reports?
Me- Sr. VP
VO- What will be your salary in US?
Me- $ xxxK per annum
VO- Which visa you traveled earlier ?
Me- L1B
VO- When it was issued ?
Me- 2012 May
VO- Oh !! it is long time back. How many reportees will you have in US ?
Me- xx (x -direct, xx-indirect)
VO- All reportees will be there in US ?
Me-Yes
VO- Will you work in NJ ?( My company office location)
Me- Yes

She started typing again in the system, stamped in 3 sets of I-129. Then golden word came out from her mouth -"Your Visa is approved." Handed over a green slip.

I had my L1 visa interview today and unfortunately was not able to get the visa. I asked the officer regarding the rejection, he informed the rules have become strict and asked me to work with HR and apply for different Visa.
Although I found the conversation went fine, so not sure why was the visa rejected.

Below is the conversation that we had:
VO: How long have you been working for XYZ?
ME: I recently completed 27 months on Aug 7 with XYZ.
VO: What is your current salary?
ME: Answered . (My salary is more than 20 Lakh)
VO: so you recently travelled to US?
ME: Yes sir , I was on a business trip from July28 to Aug 11.
VO: Purpose of travel?
ME: I was in US for business meeting and training purpose. So, our team recently merged with ABC , hence I was in US to understand their processes and brief them about our team processes.
VO: What merger?
ME: So, our team use to manage the A Business and ABC Team use to manage B Business . As both the teams have quite a bit similarities in the working, so management decided to merge both the teams.
VO: What will be your salary in US ?
ME: Answered.( More than 120 K annually).
VO: Is this including bonus etc?
ME: Yes sir, the base salary will be $90K and rest are RSU.
VO: What are RSU?
ME. Its restricted stock units .
VO: Where you will work in US?
ME: I will be based out of Phoenix.(shared complete address)
VO: Is it the same location where you visited ?
ME: Yes sir.
VO: Started typing and asked what will be your role in US?
ME: I will be managing ABC team and will supervise end to end operation of 9 direct report, so as to ensure all the xyz programs are managed with high quality and speed .
VO: Is any of the Reportie at a supervisor role ?
ME: No all of them are Individual contributors.

Now my company is planning to apply for L1A individual next month. In INDIA i am not having any direct reportie whereas in US i will have 9 Direct reporties. Will it impact my L1A individual case as i am not a people manager in INDIA? Should i apply for L1B individual ?

The people that i will manage in US have master degree from US and are working as a program Manager.

Please share your thoughts so that i can apply in the right visa category. Thanks !

L1B Blanket Approved at Chennai
Thanks to the forum for their views and experiences from start to the end of the L1 process.

Aug 13th, 12.30: Biometrics: It's the same as the most of others mentioned.

Aug 14th, 10.30 Consulate Interview:

I stayed at The Park and it is just 5 minutes walk to the Consulate on the other side of the Gemini Flyover. However, I went at 10.15 and stayed in the queue for 10 mins and they let us in one by one.

(Since I was following the forum, I already pre-arranged my I-129S, I-797, DS-160, Passport before and kept at the beginning of my heavy folder.)

After the security check, a person asks for the type of visa and if it is L1B, asks to arrange the documents. Even though I did arrange them before I didn't staple them. I let her do that since I didn't want to mess up the papers. She took all of those mentioned and made three bundles and put a band to them along with the passport.

And then, you go inside and another person checks the type of visa and if you are L1, then you need to pay the Fee 500$ at the first counter. I've paid through CC and collected the receipt and went to the counter (16) for fingerprints. They only took my right hand prints and then was asked to join the queue for the actual interview.

I felt Chennai consulate is smaller than Hyderabad or may be the applicants were more in Hyderabad (I had B1 earlier from here).

My counter number was 30:

A person before me was having her interview with a translator. (Dependent visa approved).

My turn:

VO (Lady): Passport Please!!
Me: Good morning mam, here you go! (handed my passport and then she realizes that I have the petition and asked for the bundle too)

VO: So, you work for xxxx company? (She knows about my company)
Me: Yes

VO: How long have you been working with xxx?
Me: 2 years 5 months

VO: What do you do in your job?
Me: I explained my daily duties in one line. (I was not well actually and she was not able to hear my voice and asked me to come close to the microphone onto the right.)

VO: You went to the US for 100 days before, was it vacation or business? (I have B1/B2 and travelled twice before)
Me: Business mam, and explained the reason (For a class room training on the products that I have been working with)

VO: So, you are going for 2 years now?
Me: (I neither said yes nor no). The plan is actually for four months but I am requesting for 2 years just in case if I need to make any subsequent trips in the future.

VO: What will be your salary?
Me: xxxxx $

VO: Where in the US it is (She already knew the company details more so she was kind of asking the question but she herself was giving the answer), oh it is Houston?
Me: xxxxxx, Houston (Told the exact place name)

VO: What you will be doing in the US?
Me: Explained the work that I am gonna do while I am there.

VO: Your visa is approved (Stamped the documents and returned two copies).
Me: Thank you and have a nice day!

My only suggestion is that you speak simple. Make sure that you speak in simple terms about your job and duties that anyone can understand. I felt that's the key.

All the very best folks!
