OCI application for Minor
Hello All, Need your help. For Part B According to the CKGS checklist. For minor applicants below 5 years, thumb print is required and parents need to sign & notarize. My question is the following -

1. Where do my son's thumb impression need to be placed? I am guessing in the "signature of the applicant " area?
2. Where do Parents need to sign? There is so specific verbiage or area calling out for signatures to be placed. Should my wife and I just sign on the empty space below the signature area?

Sorry for these silly questions. The instructions and the forms don't make it really apparent. And I have read CKGS rejecting applications for minor reasons. Please help. Thank you

OCI Application Father' occupation
So my father is deceased. There is no option to say that when it asks for father's occupation. Similarly my mother has never worked. What options should I choose in that case? Thanks

OCI - Name of Spouse
Applying as a naturalized US citizen. Application was delivered to the SF Application Center on 09-15-2020.

I submitted my Indian marriage certificate along with the application so that my spouse's name could be added to the OCI card. Today, they wrote me saying "The applicant’s spouses name in the OCI Government Form does not match the name in the Marriage Certificate. Please provide one of the following documents for your application to be processed further:1. Official Court Order for the name change OR2. Notarized Affidavit saying that the Name of the person in the OCI Government Form and the Marriage certificate belong to the same person OR3. Copy of Divorce Decree if name endorsed under spouse details is the former spouse OR4. Copy of Death Certificate if name endorsed under spouse details is the deceased spouse. You can ship the document to our CKGS office."

Without giving the real name, the different between the two is as expected -- one is my wife's maiden name and one is after she took my name for surname. E.g. "Jane Rachel Smith" on the Marriage Certificate and "Jane Rachel Smith Thomas" on the OCI application. Such a commonplace addition!

I am planning to send the notarized affidavit since we don't have a court order name change. Did anyone else have this experience? Did you try to reason with CKGS or must we send the affidavit?

OCI Experience SFO
07-25-2020 Send the Docs via Fedex
09-17-2020 OCI card sent via UPS

Overall less than two months. I could have been faster if there were no glitch of incomplete document and another photo request.

OCI Card
Hello everyone,
I had recently applied for OCI Card in SF Jurisdiction. But my processing has been placed on hold and they require me to submit the following Documents.

1) Naturalization Certificate
2) Proof of Renunciation of Indian Origin
3) Proof of Indian Origin

But I acquired US Citizenship by Birth. So I have never held an Indian passport. Hence I do not have a Naturalization Certificate and Proof of Renunciation of Indian Citizenship. But I do have a proof of Indian Origin. I had mailed them a copy of my proof of Indian Origin as suggested in the Document Checklist. But now they require me to send the original document. Do they usually ask for it?

What could be the best course of action?

Thanks in Advance

OCI and Passport photo cannot be same
CKGS site says "Photograph for OCI cannot be the same photograph that is already in your passport". I don't see this requirement on GOI site. Does it mean even if my picture is taken in last 3 months, I have to re-take a new picture for OCI card? Did anyone submitted same picture and recd their OCI card?

OCI documents
Hello All,

Need some help. I have acquired US citizenship and in the process of applying for OCI. I already have the renunciation certificate in hand. My questions are as follows:

1. Do I need to send the cancelled Indian Passport or just the copy of the Indian passport?
2. Do I need to send the renunciation certificate or just copy of the renunciation certificate?
3. As an Adult should I still need to notarize Government OCI application form or just signature is fine? I am guessing the notarization is just for minors?

Sorry if my questions seem basic. I just want to make sure I send the correct documents at one go. Thank you for your help.

OCI card - US passport query
I believe original US passport is required for new OCI card application. I am hesitant to send the passport by mail. If I visit CKGS Chicago in person, do they keep the passport or verify and return immediately ?
