OCI Card

Timeline: New OCI for Adult at San Francisco (naturalized US citizen with renounced Indian citizenship). The whole process took me 50 days from the day my application was delivered by FedEx to CKGS to the time FedEx delivered my OCI card at home. It would have taken 7 days less if I had not had "incomplete documents" step. The documents that had to be resubmitted were: (1) photograph in online application and the the one sent with the application package were different, (2) name in US passport and Indian passport were different - US passport includes my middle name; had to provide a self-affidavit that both names are the same person.

June 12 2020 - Passport received

July 08 2020 - Document printing Processed

July 13 2020 - Dispatch from MEA - New Delhi

July 18 2020 - Received at SFO consulate

July 21 2020 - OCI shipped

July 22 2020 - OCI received

Close to 7 weeks in total.

Hi,

I have applied for new OCI card since India has suspended all entry visas. But after sending my US passport more than a week ago, there has not been any update when I login to ckgs website. Fedex says they have delivered it but the status does not even show "Received" - which is the first step. Do they update the status or is that also not working considering they have closed the call center and not responding to any emails.

Any suggestions ? Are they processing OCI applications now ? Does anyone else see updates in the ckgs website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone who applied recently after CKGS reopened? Date of Acknowledge: 06/30. Processing time should be 4-6 weeks.

The "Date of Acknowledgement" on https://ociservices.gov.in/statusEnqury is 23-June-2020 and the current "OCI Application Status" shows "Under-Process". I see an earlier post from someone who applied for new OCI card from Chicago who got it in less than a month (June-17 / July-8). Anybody from San Francisco who applied in June after CKGS opened post the shelter-in-place restrictions were lifted?

I got OCI reissued for New Passport at Chicago Consulate with in 5 working days. I am really impressed with CKGS and Chicago Consulate efficiency in processing OCI renewals. I am really impressed.

Here is my time line.

July 7, 2020 : Sent OCI renewal Application Form and required documents by FedEx

July 8, 2020 : FedEx package was received by CKGS in Chicago

July 8, 2020 : Verification Done

July 9, 2020 : Under Process Manifestation

July 9, 2020; In Transit to Embassy

July 10, 2020: Under Process at Embassy

July 13, 2020 : In Transit to CKGS

July 13, 2020: Sorting

July 13, 2020: Dispatched

July 14, 2020: New and Old OCI card received by FedEx

Documents Sent:

1. Application form filled and downloaded from Govt. Website
2. Money Order for $75 ( I got it from US Post Office)
3. 2 Photographs ( Got from COSTCO)
4. Copy of Current USA passport - Notarized
5. Affidavit in Liue of Original for copy of USA passport
6. OCI card ( Original + Copy) - Notarized
7. Address Proof - Driving License - Notarized
8. Employment/Work Letter ( This is optional)
9. Copy of Old passport having OCI Visa Stamp - Notarized ( This may be optional)

I selected options New Passport + Change of Address as I had moved from bay area to Greater St. Louise Area

I have my application for OCI transfer to new passport ready with Cashier's check. GKGS has disabled the payment receipt field from their Washington DC jurisdiction website. Their Call centers are closed and I am not getting any response to my emails. By any chance do you know what should I do next. Thanks for your help.

***Sharing my personal experience (JUN 2020 processed) and tips in case that helps***

My case:
Reissue of OCI for new passport for minor and also have change in address.

Quick Tips:
• In CKGS site, select OCI Reissue for new passport (Minor) and find the mission to be applied and follow Govt Of India (GOI) website from CKGS site.
• In GOI website select Miscellaneous services - and check 'Change of PP particulars' (for new PP) and check Change of Address(if applicable for you).
• In the misc. section in GOI site, make sure the mission selected is what you see in CKGS site (Mission based on your current state not the mission issued for your old OCI)
• In GOI site after submission of PART A and PART B, a File Reference Number will be created. Don't generate the OCI application form until all mandatory documents are uploaded as the page 1 will print with all the uploaded doc names.
• You need to use File Reference Number from GOI site and go to CKGS to download the 'Parent Authorization form for Minors'. This form needs to be notarized and then need to upload to GOI site.
• Try to upload all the related docs in GOI site, ex: I uploaded OLD OCI card under visa category as there was no separate OCI doc name to upload. In the CKGS site, per checklist form, upload mandatory docs and docs applicable under OCI MISC services. Any docs ONLY FOR NEW OCI can be ignored.
• If you made any error in GOI site, you need to restart a new application, no way to cancel the old application in GOI website you can simply ignore it. But make sure you cancel the CKGS web reference file under cancel/refund link and start a brand new form with new GOI file ref number. You cannot proceed with two active CKGS forms at a time under same passport no:.
• Notarized Affidavit in lieu of Originals required and check only 'US PP' and 'Legal Status of Parents' (if your child is US born and parents are Indian born and have US legal visa status to stay under visa). Approval notices are fine if no valid visa in parents passport.
• CKGS shipping selection is easy and recommended.
• No online payment option available when I did in May 2020, so I need to ship original Money Order along with the application. No option to enter money order details in CKGS My account, so ignore that. You will only get payment receipt once CKGS process the Original money order you shipped within the physical application
• Notarize can be done in banks for free if you are a bank account holder. Some banks refuse to notarize in the form directly instead they will notarize in a separate notary certificate form which is acceptable by Indian consulate, I didn’t face any rejection issues here.
• ONLY Original documents - OCI card, Money Order, Photographs needs to be shipped. No need to send minor's original new or old passports.
• Don’t print the shipping label until you are ready to ship the docs as label prints with the printed date.
• Don’t forget to print bar code and affix under the shipping label in the envelope.
• Keep a checklist copy and checkmark the docs you shipping.

6/25/2020 Thu - Received New and Old canceled OCI card at home via FedEx overnight delivery.
QUICK…Considering this consulate processing speed, I don’t think the reissued OCI was sent from New Delhi, India even though the status says 'document printing processed' and 'Dispatched from MEA (OCI) - New Delhi all happened in a single day when the status checked in OCI GOI website.
