OCI Application - Outside Jurisdiction (Yes, you can)
Just a quick note as there seems to be a lot of confusion on whether you can apply to a center outside your jurisdiction. From October 2019, one CAN apply to any center outside your jurisdiction per the memo below:

https://cgihouston.gov.in/about-us/news-and-alerts/item/398-press-release-oci-application-process-simplified

My friends from Los Angeles and San Diego have successfully applied to the NY CGI and had no issues (they got their OCI in 2 weeks which is much faster than the 60 days at SF). I too just applied to the NY CGI for my OCI (I live in Los Angeles) and the documents have been verified and the GOI is now working on the OCI card. The only issue with this route is that you will NOT be able to purchase return shipping from CKGS. You thus have to include prepaid UPS envelopes (2 in number) with your package. CKGS will NOT accept FedEx or USPS per their directives. They allow DHL also, but the safest, IMO, is UPS.

Hope this helps.

Birth place different in OCI and Passport
On my OCI the birth place is the city name, but in my foreign passport the birth place is the country name. The city is inside the country.

Will there will be any problem when traveling to India.

Thank You.

OCI Renewal Application Returned Unprocessed
I sent my daughter's OCI Renewal Application to CKGS Chicago and it was returned unprocessed because I didn't upload her OCI documents . I received the application back. I have few questions. Please help me by answering these

1. Should I continue working on the old reference number generatored by Filling Part A and B. or should I start all over again ..which will give me a new number ?

2. Does Parental Authorization Form need to be notarized ?

3. I see CKGS notes stating that I put ""Incorrect Present Address". I am not sure what it means? How can present address be incorrect ? When OCI was issued for the first time, we had another address and since then we have moved and now we have a new address. When I entered all the info on https://ociservices.gov.in/, it never asked for new address. So when the form A and B was printed, it had old address printed. While submitting the form to CKGS, I put the Divers License which had the new address. So when they say "Incorrect Present Address" what does it really mean? and what I need to do to rectify with the new address ?

4. Digital Photo is already printed on OCI form which I got from https://ociservices.gov.in/, . Do I need to put physical photo on top of digital photo? or should I just send the physical photo separately and not paste on top of digital photo ?

5. Same questions as #4 above but this is about signature. Digital signature is already printed on OCI form which I got from https://ociservices.gov.in/, . Do I need to put actual signature on top of digital signature? or should I ask the minor kid to have another signature below the digital signature ?

6. What are the document I need to upload on Government of India website for OCI RE-ISSUE NEW PASSPORT ? Is Current US Passport and Old OCI Card good enough or do I need to upload more documents or any additional documents ? Does any of these documents needs to be notarized ?

7. After filling the application for OCI RE-ISSUE NEW PASSPORT on Government of India website, I got Form A and B printed. However, I am not sure how to handle the last page which is about the DECLARATION. Just wanted to remind you that this application is for Minor. Please see the form below.

7A - Should I enter the minor kid's name in DECLARATION ?

7B - I can write my name in where it says "I am a parent/ legal guardian**/ legal adoptee parent of ........................................................." but who should sign where it says "Signature of the Applicant" ? Should parent sign it here or the minor kid? Not very sure of from the form.

OCI Application at NY Consulate
Application for new OCI Submitted at NY Consulate.

While preparing for the application, make sure you are careful about the following things:
1. Photo size and specs
2. Signature size and specs
3. Place of birth (be careful what you put in, call and ask them if needed. It should be exactly as on your passport, but they have drop down menus for country, state, etc., so it can be confusing)
4. Make sure your name, address, parents name, occupation are filled correctly.

I had a smooth experience, but I was a bit nervous about whether or not it will go through without any incident. I would suggest to read the instructions again and again, and call them if you have any questions.

OCI reissued in around 10 days by NYC Consulate...Whaaaaaaat!
Recently, a friend of mine worked with a New Jersey-based firm to get the OCI re-issuance processed and returned in his hand in about 10 days.

The firm charged a nice fee for its service. The good (in fact, great) news is that it delivered the promised result. The OCI was processed via the NYC Consulate, where, I am aware that, things are done at a much faster pace than that in other centers in US, like DC.

Nevertheless, I was floored to see that kind of fast result. I have submitted my re-issuance application to CKGS DC some 12 days ago. It is currently in the dead zone showing as “Under Process” at the Embassy.

Has anyone else used expedited services like the one in NJ? Does this suggest that there is a fasttrack process, by both CKGS and the consulate / embassy for the right price?

I am interested in hearing your experience about this.
