Converting PIO to OCI as per the new law - Mandatory from June 18th
Hi,

On the CKGS Wesite and also on the COnsulate of India website for New York it is posted that all PIO holders (Existing and valid) have to upgrade to OCI. They mention that for the first 3 months it is voluntary but from June 18th 2015 it is Mandatory.

My question is - On the PIO to OCI conversion checklist they mention to provide proof of Surrender Certificate / REnunciation Certificate. But they haven't mentioned if they need original or copy.

I believe this should also be the case to convert from PIO to OCI - Can someone please advise on do we need to provide original surrender certificate of copy.

It does clearly mention to submit original PIO card.

Thanks

PIO card to OCI Card
Can some one narrate your experience with "converting PIO card to OCI Card". Behalf of my minor child, I have completed registration process on NYC Consulate official website and it generated application and directed me to print Part-A and B along with "instructions for filing. It appeared very simple and I was about to mail my application along with required documents specified in the "instructions for filing".

I happened to visit Cox and Kings website and it has a "check list for minor covering PIO to OCI" and it has 4 pages of check list and many documents to be attached which are not on the "instructions for filing" check list that I printed. This is very confusing, I therefore, stopped mailing my application.

Please explain your experience and guide if I should simply follow check list printed or Cox & Kings website.

Have applied for OCI in India
My wife has applied for OCI card. First PIO card was applied in first half of Dec'14. Then in early Jan'15 the Government of India issued a notice wherein PIO scheme was done away with and we had to file OCI application. A new demand draft was required (one more step in the process). The office of OCI in Delhi informed us that we should wait before applying for the OCI as they had no clarity on this new scheme. Finally in the first week of Feb we filed the application.

Has been more than a month and a half and there is no change in the status - 'under process'. In the FAQs section of BoI, #17 states that it takes 30 days if no adverse information is available against the applicant. Does it imply that there is some adverse issue or is it normal for this office to take their own sweet time?

Going by the other posts in this section here I understand that it is better to apply from outside India. Further, can someone please elaborate details about the match-up process? What exactly does it mean?

Already 4 months into the process. Wonder how much more time will be taken!
